There’s something bittersweet about this photo.
There is so much here to be thankful for. Cattle in the pasture. A beautiful Oklahoma sunset. The farm. Home. A view I’ve looked across more times than I could ever count. But if you look a little closer, you can see just how hard this summer has been on the land.
The grass that should be green is brown and dormant. The pond is dry. We’ve watched storm after storm disappear before it ever gets here, and every day seems to bring more heat and another cloudless sky. The land is tired. I think all of us are.
But then the sun goes down like this.
And for a few minutes, even in the middle of a drought, Oklahoma reminds you there is still beauty everywhere you look. It makes you thankful for what you have while praying pretty hard for what you need.
We sure could use some rain. A whole lot of it. But tonight, I’m thankful for this view, these cattle, this land, and another sunset I was lucky enough to witness.
Sometimes gratitude and worry can exist in the exact same picture. ❤️
