The privilege to make something special.

The awareness to know you never want to make it again.

Two sides of the same coin that add complexity into human-made items. Last night, I watched Homeward Bound (remember Chance, Sassy, and Shadow?) with the kids and, of course at the end, when Shadow brings up the tail of the group, I SOBBED 😭 😂 I was so moved by that scene and the whole epic tale of confusion, survival and the feeling of needing to come home.

My 10 year old son made the comment that he prefers the way they did the animals in this movie, where the voices are dubbed in and they don't make fake animals talk like in the newer "live" action animal movies. I agreed with him and explained that computers have given us CGI, which isn't bad necessarily, but it doesn't evoke the human emotion we experience with the real world.

Afterwards, I couldn't help but think if how difficult that movie must have been to film. To get animals to hit their marks, express the right vibe at the right time... it must have been a massive undertaking. I'm sure its why the second Homeward Bound was less impressive overall and didn't have nearly the core memory making capacity. Making incredible is difficult and often unrepeatable in that same way.

My little rooster mug gave me that same feeling. I likely wont make another one, but I'm happy with this one enough that I don't feel the need to push myself to draw this much detail and transfer it again.

A batch of pre-orders headed out in the mail today, and I’m feeling extra grateful. 🤍

These mugs came from my little home studio, a beginner wheel, borrowed kiln space, and a whole lot of determination. Every piece blessed me along the way.

To the wonderful women who commissioned these and trusted me with your ideas and your hard-earned money — thank you. Truly. What I make is built in the margins of motherhood — and every ounce of support makes those margins feel a little wider and a little more comfortable for all of who I am.

I can’t wait for these mugs to land in their new homes and become part of everyday life. ☕✨

Needing to plan your next farm moves??

Get as far away from it as possible 😆

Seriously though, I haven't had this much time to use my brain without distraction or interruption in a long time. The real passenger princess perk is being able to take time to think completely guilt free.

The goal? Breed for a structurally sound, well-growing lilac herd sire.

The next moves?

1. Breed Fleur (BBdd) to Orien (BBDd) ✅️
2. Likely keep a blue buck kit, Viggo (BBdd), from them ✅️
3. Breed Viggo to Sybil (bbdd) [ ]
4. Keep a blue buck from Viggo x Sybil, name him Viktor (Bbdd) [ ]
5. Breed Viktor back to Sybil [ ]
6. Keep a lilac buck kit from them, name him Vireo (bbdd)
7. Breed Vireo to Narcissa (BBDD) [ ]
8. Keep a black buck from them, name him Vail (BbDd) [ ]
9. Breed Vail to future lilac doe (bbdd) [ ]
10. Keep a lilac buck from them, name him Vinko (bbdd) 🎯

Whew! See what I mean?? Planning like this takes me ton of time that I normally don't have while at home.

Breeding this way makes it possible to coalesce 5 rabbitries genetics - Jumpers and Thumpers, Rawhide Ranch & Rabbitry, Country View Homestead , Willoughby Acres , and D&S into my own specifically bred line. I'll be standing on the shoulders of their experience to attempt to improve what I can.

A lot could go wrong and this could all be for nothing, but I do think it's worth thinking about these things critically for the betterment of the breed. Fingers crossed it all comes together!

Our hearts are heavy today.

Debbie, a chicken from our very first order of chicks, had passed on. She was sort of our farm mascot, outlasting all other chickens and permanently asserting herself at the top of the pecking order.

She did the move with us from Colorado to Tennessee in the back of an Xterra. Everyone thought we were crazy, but I knew I couldn't leave Debbie behind. I have pictures of a two year old Aria holding her as a chick and now holding her as an old hen, too weak to stand. I have so many memories of her that will always be treasured.

She will be deeply missed 💔

Gentle reminder that not everything needs to be figured out before we can find our peace.

Rest is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your mental health.

My friend, you are not behind in life.

You are precisely where you're supposed to be.

Be compassionate to yourself by being simply who you are right now. Not who you wish you could be in the future.

God loves you and wants good things for your life.

Today we noticed the miraculous little things:

1. These little flower bulbs suffered serious neglect in a carboard box for weeks before I finally had the bandwidth to plant them into the ground last year. They didn't grow last year so I was shocked to see them peeking out this year. Looks like we may see some beauty from them yet! I'm terribly excited! Thank you, God!

2. My neverending search for pretty egg layers had me heading to Nana's House in the Woods (Facebook account). She gave me a dozen free eggs to help her test hatch out some new stock of hers. The pullets just started laying and we have one speckled brown egg and today this pretty green speckled egg arrived 😊 I love these chickens for many reasons and a pretty green speckled egg is the cherry on top!

3. Today the sun was out and the temps were perfect! A little haze didn't stop me from enjoying the view of Oakley, freshly inseminated (we are now praying for a successful pregnancy), and looking in great condition coming out of winter.

4. Peonies - a pheonix of a flower. This one gives a dinner plate sized, deep bergundy bloom and gets to be five feet across. I can't wait for her to show it all off again!

5. The best rooster I've ever owned up to now and he has no name - yet! He's an Americauna boy, stunningly black with golden saddle and neck feathers. In addition, he's such a sweet thing, always coming up to have a chat. Name suggestions are welcome!

I hope you're having a blessed Sunday and enjoying the gorgeous weather 😊

How y’all doing out there?

Chores weren’t terrible this morning thanks to the prep we did ahead of time. Cows milked and fed, rabbits taken care of, and Mickey-shaped pancakes already going on the griddle (a snow-day must in our house 😊). Total ’90s kid nostalgia, and I’m fully leaning into it 😁

Animals fed, people fed, everyone warm and cozy in their places on a snow day… heaven on earth if you ask me 🥰

I wasn’t planning on my day starting like this.

But when something this cute begs to be held, what can you do except scoop her into your pocket and make space for her at the breakfast table?

No overthinking.
No noise.

Just a tiny baby and her soft, warm fur.

(Also yes, this is a baby rabbit and I am not okay 🥹)

These are the moments I keep trying to build a life around. 🐇💜

Would you have stayed here a minute too?
