Two days before Brian Dunne passed away, we were video chatting about all the things he was looking forward to once he got back down here to Oregon. We were just waiting on a call from OHSU to get that ball rolling again.
The most immediate thing was the promise that I would make him my Jamaican Goat Curry on the day he arrived. His face lit up, and his voice became loud and clear with a “yeahhh I can’t wait!” We went on to chat about all the other foods he missed.
He LOVED being down here with me. Almost every day he would be outside picking things from the garden, talking with the animals, having lap full of cats and being the big brother who would lecture me on what he perceived my lack of safety on a few things. Of course we would get on each others nerves, but that’s what siblings do. Every evening, he would sit at the table before dinner was ready and engage in conversations’ with the kids about how their days went. He would share stories with them about how we were as kids. Brianna would get the biggest laughs,Dereon would love to ask him questions while Robert would just absorb it all.
Unfortunately, two days after he passed, I received the phone call from OHSU that they were ready for him.
Tonight, I made the curry and we talked about Uncle Brian Dunne , it’s going to be a new tradition around here. Perhaps I’ll even rename it Uncle Brian’s Curry.
