We're riding in the car to drop off a delivery order in Woodbury, and I just can't help but reflect on the thoughts I've had the past few weeks about our small homestead business.
Thoughts like...
How there are 144 people who've chosen to follow along on this journey with us, and while that may be small to some, it's huge to us. That's 144 more people β 144 lives that we've been given the opportunity to share a piece of our life with. 144 people who have taken the time to stop, to look, to listen, to support, and to care about what we're creating here.
Or how when I met Zachary almost 5 years ago and he introduced me to a healthier way of living, neither of us could have imagined where that journey would eventually lead us. We never set out thinking that the way we choose to live or the knowledge we've gained along the way would have an impact on other people. Yet somehow, here we are β not only connecting with other people who share our passion for a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle, but also meeting people with dairy/egg intolerances, people looking for alternatives that feel a little more nourishing, and people who simply want to find a way to step away from the ultra-processed foods that have become so commonplace.
Or how there could be so much joy in our everyday life. How much we actually look forward to what we get to do. I mean, I really had no idea late-night labeling and packaging, doing all kinds of baking-related tasks 6 days out of the week, or making what seems like an exorbitant amount of trips to the grocery store for supplies could be so... enjoyable. Fun. Something that we get excited about. Something that we can genuinely feel we'll never get tired of.
And I'm learning that... maybe that's the whole point. "If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life," right? It sure does feel like it. For me, I think back over the two short months we've been attending the farmers markets, and what comes to mind isn't how we've been "running a business". It's all of the people we've met, and the conversations that have led to connection. It's the suggestions to try new things, and the constructive criticism about those new things that has helped us improve upon our craft.
When I really sit with the weight of all of that, I can't help but feel incredibly grateful. Grateful that we took the chance to build something of our own. Grateful for the encouraging words from friends and family that said "go for it!". Grateful that the things we're passionate about have found their way into the lives of other people. Grateful for every single one of you who has stopped by our table, placed an order, followed along, shared a post, encouraged us, or simply taken an interest in what we're doing.
If this is only the beginning, I seriously can't wait to see where this takes us.
