Cast Iron Farm

Cast Iron Farm Cast Iron Farm offers access to raw milk through our herd share program. Come out and get to know the cows who work so hard for you.

We also host short farm stays on the farm in our guest quarters. We are Christine, Jared, Daphne, Cyprus and Florence. We are fourth generation farmers operating on a century old farm just on the outskirts of Mcminnville, Oregon in the beautiful Willamette Valley.

It’s already been quite a month so far with all kinds of unexpected twists and turns. It was, however, a sweet diversion yesterday when the sun was shining, the sheep got outside and Ariel surprised us with a set of triplets!

Do you want to know what’s really up in Yamhill County in the winter? I’ve got an experience for you like none other.

We are teaming up with .love and for an exciting, inspirational, connecting and delicious McMinnville experience.

Sunday, March 3rd you can wake up with coffee in the morning while we milk the cow together. We will get some cheeses started while you go out with the amazing Amico Roma dogs to hunt for the elusive and elegant Oregon truffles. Return to the farm in the afternoon and participate in making several different types of cheeses while playing with lambs, baby goats and puppies. You will leave the farm with some freshly made cheese and the truffles you found.

Rounding out the perfect day you can then delve deep into a delicious and thoughtful truffle and cheese themed meal prepared by the inimitable chef Brett Uniss of Humble Spirit at the beautiful and newly renovated Stillwater event hall.

We have been dreaming of how best to share these experiences with you, and this is the embodiment of my dream day. Come spend it with us and support these awesome and special people I’m so lucky to call my friends.

You can do the truffle and cheese making workshop, or the dinner separately OR go all in and treat yourself to both.

What would you do if the whims of government regulation shifted to target you specifically to shut you down? You’d very well fight back, wouldn’t you? That’s exactly what Sarah and I took when we filed a lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Agriculture this week.

Last year, the ODA made a rule change that would take effect that would force someone milking as little as one dairy animal, even just one goat or cow, even just for personal use, to get permitted as a factory farm. Sarah and I don’t believe in that kind of burdensome government. We will fight for our right to be productive Americans— and for you, if you want to join us in farming and feeding your community. Thank you for your support of our farm and our sincere assertion that indeed, this is America.

Thank you to the Institute for Justice for sticking up for a few small town girls.

Opened up some really beautiful natural rind pecorinos from our last season. It’s times like these I can’t wait for those sheep to be back in milk so I can get back into the make room! 🐑

It’s been awful cold around here lately. We haven’t had any running water in the barn for days, but the cows are happy for some frozen ground rather than mud. Plus they leave behind these really cute ice prints in the parlor. Forecast looks better. I’ll take it!

We are on the middle of an ice storm here in Oregon so I’m going to throw it back to my time in Italy this past October.

I had the very good luck to run into a cheesemaker near Bergamo for

He showed us around their historic cheese operation including the production of my personal favorite cheese—taleggio ❤️

It is tours and experiences like this that give me hope as I look into the future of what small and meaningful cheese production could look like in my own community.

Little Simba made his appearance in the world this week. He was almost 2 weeks late but hit the ground running. He’s a playful little bouncing ball of milk fueled energy. It’s a good motivation to have babies born mid winter to give us a little pep!

Happy National Milk Day. It’s an absolute honor to provide for you all!

Went through the flock to do an evaluation 1 month before shearing and lambing. Most sheep got new coats put on for this last bit of growth.

I’m super excited for the lamb crop we are going to get out of our new ram from This fleece far surpasses anything I ever hoped to have in my barn. It’s so darn dreamy. I can’t wait to see how it spins up and how it looks crossed out with my dairy sheep.

Happy last day of 2023. As you get out your new calendars, don’t forget to save the date for a truffle and cheesemaking day. We are only doing two workshops this year, February 18th or March 3rd. People ask about these all year. If heaven isn’t making cheese and hunting truffles in the same day, I don’t know what is. Also—there will be baby goats… and puppies…

A flower crown and laurels for my ballerina in her senior year of dancing in the Nurcracker. She started dancing when she was three and declared she wanted to live at the studio and dance 8 days a week. What fun to watch her make that dream come true. She’s a true leader on the stage and a graceful and beautiful human, not to mention my best friend. How lucky am I?

Flowers for her crown by the one and only who helped me pull off a local flower crown in December.
