The goldenrod is in flower!

Did you know?

Goldenrod is a vibrant perennial plant belonging to the genus Solidago, native to North America. It blooms in late summer and autumn, producing distinctive clusters of bright yellow flowers. Despite its reputation, goldenrod is not the culprit behind seasonal allergies; its heavy, sticky pollen cannot travel through the air, meaning it relies entirely on insect pollinators. The real source of hay fever during this season is ragweed, which blooms concurrently but releases microscopic, wind-borne pollen.

Zinnias are fast-growing, beginner-friendly annual flowers native to Mexico. They thrive in hot, full sun and come in every color except blue. Cutting the blooms makes the plant grow more flowers.

The Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) is a popular summer-blooming shrub that attracts a variety of pollinators, most notably bumble bees, carpenter bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. The plant's large, open-faced blossoms offer accessible nectar and pollen, acting as a crucial food source when many spring flowers fade.
