Hey friends and neighbors! I had surgery last week, and we did a big collect today. I have several dozen eggs, but do not have cartons for all of them. Four dozen are currently boxed up. Bring cartons and I'll happily fill them up for you!

If you're needing eggs, hit me up - it's always pay what you can with barters ALWAYS welcome, and if you're struggling to feed your family right now, they're on the house.

I will tell you, this batch of eggs is muddy. These girls have been weathering this rain and with me not able to lift anything, I haven't been able to get shavings in their coop to dry it out the way I'd like.

But, if you want some rainbow eggs at whatever price you can afford and don't mind washing them, shoot me a text at 623-271-0510.

No delivery, sorry. I'm not cleared to drive.

This explains SO much.

This explains SO much.

When a rooster opens its beak to crow, soft tissue closes around half the eardrum and seals the ear canal.

This natural defense reduces the sound by up to 40 decibels, protecting the bird from its own piercing call.

The result is nature’s built-in volume control, keeping the rooster safe while the rest of us get the full blast.

Interesting!

Interesting!

OC-17, a protein found only in hens, rapidly crystallizes calcium to build eggshells in a single day.

Without this microscopic architect, no true egg could form. The chicken had to exist first.

Since I made this page yesterday, I've had a few questions, so let me answer them, because they're relevant!

Where is the egg stand?
10 Lakeview Trail, 37110. Look for the massive purple mail box! It's across the driveway from it. Please feel free to park in the driveway, and pull up the driveway to turn around if you're more comfortable doing so. Just watch out for Ryanne and Brightbill - the guard geese are very interested in cars.

How much are your eggs?
We use a pay what you can system - you pay what you're able to, or what you think they're worth. If you can't afford to feed your family right now, eggs are on the house - pay it forward when you can. Average is about $4, but if you only have 50Β’, or if you want to pay $20 to support our ability to keep providing free eggs to folks who are struggling right now, we're happy either way. We just want you to eat!

How do I pay you?
Cash in the container screwed to the egg stand, or you can Venmo is at ColFam09. We are also VERY happy to accept trades! Long live the barter system!

Can I meet your chickens?
Absolutely! They'd be thrilled - just message me and we'll set it up, and I'll put the geese away. Currently, some of the girls are in hard molt, so they're ugly, but don't tell them that. They'll be offended, and I have no control over their language when they're mad. Please DO NOT come up to meet them without checking in - the geese don't take kindly to that, and I'll upload the video from our security system if you being chased to TikTok.

Do you have a rooster?
Yes, we have five of them, actually.

Can I hatch your eggs?
You can absolutely try to! They'll mostly be barnyard mixes, but you may get a couple of pure Light Brahmas in there.

What kind of chickens do you have?
I have a huge range of birds, mostly because my main job is at a feed store, and while I DO buy some birds, a majority of the girls are babies that came home sick or injured and I nursed back to health. Our flock includes but is not limited to Americanas (not AU, these guys are really just glorified Easter eggers) two leghorns (one who is not laying yet) light Brahmas, olive eggers, naked necks (turkens) Black Copper Marans, two varieties of Wyandottes, silkies, Old English Game bantams, Buff Orpingtons, Australorps, Silkie Show Girls, and more. We have 40+ hens, a bachelor flock of roosters, a bachelor flock of drakes, and a bonded pair of African Geese. We're a little wild over here!

Can I reserve eggs?
Sure! Give me a call, or message me here. Need a custom batch? We can talk about that too. I have customers who only want brown eggs, customers who only want fun colored eggs, and even customers who only want bantam eggs. I'm happy to accommodate if I know in advance!

Do you deliver?
Sadly, no. I work a regular 40 hour a week job, run this farm, care for a disabled veteran spouse, have two kids, five dogs, and a cat. I barely have time to breathe - however, I work in town and am happy to bring eggs to work with me for you to pick up!

Are your hens free range?
Mostly. The main flock lives in a 10x10 coop and has a 10x80 run, but these girls get downright Fowl with their language if I don't let them out in the mornings. When the weather is nasty, though, they stay in their coop and run.

What color are the eggs?
Varying shades of brown, light blue, green, and white. The green eggs are totally safe to eat, I promise.

How do you know the eggs aren't fertilized?
I don't. I DO, however, candle each egg before packaging. I collect eggs daily, but some of these ladies are sneaky and will hide eggs, so I check to make sure we're not sending out growing babies.

Do you sell chicks?
No. I am not currently NPIP certified, and the only thing i produce for sure is barnyard mixes anyway. Our eggs are meant for eating, but as I said before, you're welcome to hatch for fun!

Do you sell duck / goose eggs?
I do not, but I have a close friend who has the hookup on duck eggs. My geese are not laying yet, but I may be persuaded to sell their eggs when they start... If I can persuade them. πŸ˜‚

Do you have other social media?
I do! You can find me, my fowl-mouthed homesteading adventures, baking, gardening, and whatever else I get into on TimTok by searching GardenByMoonlight. I also have an all but abandoned Instagram. I will tell you in advance, I curse like a soldier on my TikTok... Because I used to be one and it's habit. πŸ‘€πŸ€ͺ

What else do you sell?
Nothing - YET. Keep an eye out for fresh baked breads, cookies, cakes, flowers, fruits, vegetables, handmade jewelery, and possibly my sanity out on the stand.

Do I HAVE to talk to you to get eggs?
No. Absolutely not. The stand is self serve and on the honor system - you only need to talk to me if you need something special. In spite of my ability to write paragraphs and provide excellent customer service at my retail job, I'd really rather talk to my animals. However if you WANT to talk have more questions, or just need a non judgemental ear, holla. I gotchu!

Meet our employee of the week, Miss Stella June! Stella has been with us since the beginning, and currently our only white egg layer, so if you get a white egg, you know it came from her!

Likes: Hot pepper Impeckables Treats, going to bed before sundown, Hades the rooster, being a filth pot.

Dislikes: Magda and Zsa Zsa the Drag Queen Roosters, the lawn mower, and when Food Bringer plays music while cleaning the coop. Her music is stupid.

Most days, Stella can be found in the most inconvenient places possible, because making the Food Bringer hunt for her also pleases Stella.
