We got the first of the hay for 2026 mowed today. Baler and wrapper are coming tomorrow to get it put away. It wasn't the tallest crop we've seen but boy was it THICK! It should make a good bit of feed. We will feed this to the cows this winter while they are grazing corn stalks and cover crops. We will start mowing grass hay probably within the next 2 weeks so if you’re looking for nice quality horse hay message us and we can get you hooked up.

If you look very closely, you can just make out the shape of the elusive jungle pig!

We picked up our piglets for the 2026 season yesterday. They will be raised in the woods and given grain and then come fall we will also be feeding them cider pressings from a local orchard. This is the 5th year getting piglets from Curvin Groff and are very pleased with them, like always. If your looking for any piglets to raise yourself give him a shout. They are all heritage breeds and do very well raised outside. We still have several u spoken for yet so if you would like to get your hands on some pastured pork this fall message us for details. We can do 1/4s, 1/2s or wholes. Butchering is done at Valley Butcher in Ferguson Valley, they do a great job. They will be ready to butcher in October and ready to pick up usually beginning of November. We only have a few left so don't wait if your interested in some!

We have some happy happy cows this morning. After spending all fall and winter out on cover crops and corn stalks we finally have enough grass to start grazing for the year! We will move them everyday during the growing season and then again next fall move them back out to cover crops and corn stalks. If you’re looking for freezer beef or pastured pork shoot us a message and we can get you hooked up. If you’re looking for some beef right away, we still do have 1 front 1/4 left of the beef we are taking up this week.

Update! The hind 1/4 is sold but we still have 2 front 1/4s available. Grilling season is upon us, stock your freezer full for your cookouts!

We have some beef available! We have one half and one front quarter left unspoken for. They leave next week and should be available to pick up from the butcher around the end of the month. Butchering done at Peachey Foods in Belleville. Message us for pricing.

We are currently taking orders for our pasture raised pork for 2026. The pigs spend their time in the woods rooting and foraging. We do give them a feed mix and come summer get fed peach drops from a local orchard. Then as soon as apples are in season and the orchards start making apple cider we feed the pigs the pressings left over from the cider making process. If your family is looking for a humanely raised, local, pasture raised pork, shoot us a message. We can do either 1/4, 1/2, or whole hogs. All thw butchering is done at Valley Butcher in Ferguson Valley. From the pigs being born to butchered, they never leave Mifflin County. If you are interested in any, please message us sooner than later as we need to make sure we can find enough piglets for this year.

The cows are still grazing! This summer after wheat harvest we planted a 9 species cover crop mix that the cows have been enjoying all winter. We have about 10 days of that left before we move them back to corn stalks to graze the rest of winter. With it being so bitter cold we did start feeding some hay everyday as well too make sure their bellies are good and full to keep them warm. And no, the cows aren't cold. Snow on their backs is a good sign meaning they're insulated well and retaining body heat. As always we have a good selection of beef in the freezers, lots of roasts left prefect for days like this! We have a limited amount of our pastured pork left as well. Order online at southriverfarm.com. delivery is also available.
