We knew conditions looked promising, but we never expected a day like this! ❤️

Almost as soon as we stepped into the forest, we started spotting Spring Kings. Everywhere we looked, fresh mushrooms were pushing through the forest floor! We didn’t even cover much ground before our bags started filling up.

What made this find even more remarkable was the quality of the mushrooms. Spring Kings are often quite buggy by the time they reach a good size, but even the largest ones we found showed very little worm damage. They were absolutely packed with water and looked like they had exploded out of the ground after the perfect combination of rain and mild temperatures we’ve had over the past week.

As if that wasn’t enough, we also found a wonderful share of morels along the way. Every turn seemed to reveal another treasure waiting to be discovered.

By the time we had to leave, there were still mushrooms popping up all around us. Walking away was incredibly difficult! We left many behind and could only imagine what the forest will look like in the coming days.

Without a doubt, this was the best Spring King harvest our family has ever recorded. Days like this remind us why we love spending time in the mountains and forests so much. Nature is truly amazing! ❤️🍄🌲

🌱 A Day Spent Fighting Weeds The Old-Fashioned Way 🌱
Today was one of those long farm days spent pulling w**ds. It’s hard work, and there are certainly faster ways to do it, but we continue to choose hand w**ding and mechanical methods over chemical herbicides.
Our farm is home to much more than people. We share this space with birds, pollinators, beneficial insects, frogs, our farm critters, and countless other creatures that are part of a healthy ecosystem. We want the flowers to remain a safe stop for bees and butterflies, the soil to stay alive with beneficial organisms, and the natural balance of the farm to thrive.
For us, the extra hours are worth it. Every w**d pulled by hand is one less reason to introduce chemicals into an environment that supports so much life. While no farm is perfect, we strive to make decisions that respect the land and the wildlife that call it home.
So if you see us out there sweating in the sun, just know it’s part of our commitment to caring for this little piece of nature as responsibly as we can.
The w**ds may be persistent, but so are we. 🌿💪🐝🦋🐓

What a day at Mt. Spokane!!!

The blondes are POPPING right now and we had our best haul of the season yet! Evan absolutely killed it today… he would disappear into the forest and come back with giant monsters filling his bag every single time 😂 He truly has such a talent for mushroom foraging and spotting the best ones hidden deep in the woods!
We found some incredible oversized morels that are hopefully destined to become stuffed morels soon (our favorite way to enjoy the big ones 😍). We also spotted quite a few beautiful spring kings along the way!

Perfect weather, deep in the forest, fresh mountain air, and mushrooms everywhere… what a fun afternoon and what an amazing season it’s been so far! 🍄✨

Mount Spokane surprised us today!
After all the cold rain and lingering chilly weather, we honestly didn’t expect much… but the forest was exploding with life!
Many beautiful blond morels, tiny spring kings just how we like them (before the bugs move in 😅), and coral mushrooms everywhere. The woods felt absolutely magical : damp earth, mushrooms tucked under every turn.
A few hours of pure forest bliss and the kind of treasure hunt that never gets old ✨

Another fun day up the mountain! 🍄
We had to go back for a few more hours to enjoy the absolute morel paradise up there. Such a beautiful sight seeing grey and black morels living in harmony across the forest floor! Nature never gets old.
No boletes in sight yet, but we did find lots of fresh corals popping up as well. Now hoping tomorrow’s rain and cooler temperatures help bring another flush! 🌧️🌲
What a season so far!

Happy Mother’s Day mushroom picking adventure! 🍄🌲

With very little rain lately, we honestly hesitated before heading up the mountain… but curiosity won! And what a surprise nature had waiting for us. We spotted beautiful coral mushrooms and picked spring kings and morels along the way!
The forest was full of surprises today. We only wish we had more time to keep exploring, but as the evening light faded, we had to make our way back to the car.
Nature always reminds us that you never truly know what treasures are waiting out there. What a perfect day in the mountains! ❤️

Morning walk up Mt. Spokane with my neighbor friend today! her first morel hunt of the spring 🌿
We wandered through the Douglas firs around 3000 ft, and it didn’t take long before a few scattered morels started revealing themselves. Not a huge haul, but just enough to keep that excitement going with every careful step and scan of the forest floor.
The real magic, though, was everything else along the way… all the wildflowers waking up, with bonus points (always!) for the delicate calypso orchids and those coral roots. Nature really puts on a show this time of year.
We also came across puffballs, some impressively large gyromitra esculenta (really huge and abundant this year) and even a few snowbank mushrooms (maublancomyces montananus) still holding on from the cooler pockets.
Fresh air, quiet trails, and great company it doesn’t get much better than that.

Long hike at Riverside this morning… miles and miles for one lonely morel 😅 Almost got completely skunked!
Tried to stay optimistic and went back out this evening for a quick check on a few baby morels we had left behind… found them, but they barely grew and most were already drying out. Not the comeback we were hoping for.
It’s getting hot and dry way too fast. We really need some rain if this season is going to keep going! 🌧️

Yesterday’s little adventure turned into such a fun surprise 🌿
We headed out to one of our cottonwood “treasure spots,” hoping this warmer, wetter winter might bless us with a few oyster mushrooms… but nature had a different plan!
Instead of oysters, we found so many early morels (verpas)! This is usually a spot where we only come across a handful, but yesterday they were popping up in clusters everywhere. Such a treat to see them thriving like that.
No oysters this time—but honestly, no disappointment here. Just fresh air and the excitement of spotting those little treasures hiding in the leaves.
These are the days we love most 🤎

Who would’ve thought… a morel hunt right at the boys’ middle school 😄
It seriously feels like an incredible year for morels! We couldn’t believe how many we found today! What started as a casual little look turned into a pretty great haul.
Even better than the mushrooms though… just being out there, exploring, laughing, and sharing the moment together. Definitely one of those simple days that turns into a great memory !
