Oak practicing his skills with daddy!

I love the confidence our tiny has in his physical capabilities. Because he’s right, he’s capable of a lot. And as he continues to push his boundaries. We will do our best to scratch that itch in the appropriate ways.

Some chicks, some eggs, some barn cat snuggles, and the smell of fruit trees in bloom, we are so very ready for spring!

The array of colors we got this round is so very welcoming! 18 not from our eggs but the rest are our colored layers. 14 purchased eggs 4 purchased chicks (can’t ever seem to behave going to the feed store 🫣) and 28 I believe our hatchouts? Fluffy faces and fluffy feet all over the place!

Yup, whatever I thought I was doing today? I’m not. I’m sitting right here watching these little peepers pop through 😅🤗🫠

It’s all about perspective.

This morning, like many others, we woke up to it DUMPING snow outside. In the middle of March. Yep. It’s cold. It’s wet. Chores still have to be done. But you know what else? We have THE MOST EXCITED two year old zipping from window to window. You know why? He knows EVERYTIME it snows, my first order is to go get him a bucket of snow to play with while I do our morning routines. And the excited noises coming from him this morning are everything I live for 💗 The snow will melt. The weather will change. But the memories remain.

Hawk is one of our friendliest chickens. So she frequently gets to come in and eat with the kids. Oak has really taken to loving this and watching the video back I realized he thanked me for bringing her in. He’s so thankful all the time for the little things we begin to just pass over. Thank you oak for reminding me to appreciate the little things 💗

Lil Miss was a rescue we received after her original owners went through a bad divorce where the animals were left to die. She was the last of her flock and came to us as a skeleton that could no longer walk. She was found next to her deceased mate and for a long time we didn’t know if she would make it. Thankfully her will was strong and eventually she not only made it, she flourished! Realistically it took her a couple years to walk proper and I didn’t think she ever would but I am proud of her.

She is a Cayuga. Cayuga are progressive pied type birds. They age gracefully going from black to white. Just like their eggs in the seasons go from almost black to white. I will be keeping this breed around for many years to come all thanks to Lil Miss showing me what i would be missing if i didn’t 💗

There’s something to say about raising capable hands as much as capable brains.
There’s something about being a team and where I teach softness, cleanliness, and order- dad teaches rough, tough, and chaos. Both are important to know how to navigate. Between us, I hope only to ever make the well rounded individuals my children are becoming. And for that I am thankful.

I feel like the rabbits are taking over the homesteading page. While i absolutely love all the rabbit things, I do want the homestead page to be more involved in all the going ons. In order to not have it so lost in rabbits, I made a secondary page just to follow along with everything rabbit! Give it a follow and enjoy all the information I can share on rabbits!
