My name is Christine Smith, and I’m proud to call Mead, Colorado home.
My husband and I moved to Mead nearly 11 years ago because we fell in love with the rural, small-town character and the strong sense of community we felt from the moment we arrived. We weren’t looking for just another place to live—we were looking for a place to put down roots and raise our family.
I’m a wife and a mother of five, most of whom went through Mead’s K–12 school system. Over the years, our family has become deeply invested in this community.
My husband and I have spent more than a decade renovating our home, which had once served as Mead’s old post office. We also took on the renovation of the historic Scooterhinge building next door while building our own small business, Metalworks, into a sit-down restaurant in old downtown Mead.
As a licensed contractor and small-business owner, I understand firsthand what it takes to build, remodel, create jobs, meet budgets, solve problems, and keep moving forward when things don’t go according to plan. I’ve worked through everything from remodels and ground-up construction to the countless unexpected challenges that come with owning and operating a business.
My roots in the restaurant industry go back many years. I started as a waitress and worked my way into management at several restaurants. I developed a genuine passion for customer service and hospitality and learned how important it is to listen, communicate, solve problems, and treat people with respect.
When we opened Metalworks in Mead, we didn’t simply open a restaurant—we became part of the community. We’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible people, supporting local events, creating jobs, and experiencing the unique rural character that makes Mead special.
But my involvement in Mead goes beyond owning a business.
For more than four years, I have regularly attended Board of Trustees meetings and Coffee with the Mayor gatherings. I’ve spent those years listening, learning, and trying to understand the direction our elected officials and town management are taking our community.
What I’ve come to believe is that residents deserve a stronger voice in the process.
I’ve watched residents wait until the end of meetings for their opportunity to speak, only to receive little or no follow-up. I’ve listened to concerns and questions that deserved further discussion. And over the years, I’ve become increasingly concerned that public input is not always receiving the consideration it deserves.
That is one of the main reasons I decided to run for the Mead Board of Trustees.
I believe our Board should listen to residents, encourage meaningful public dialogue, welcome different perspectives, and provide transparency about the decisions that affect our community.
If elected, I will work to make public input more than a few minutes at the end of a meeting. I will work to ensure residents receive answers and follow-up when they bring legitimate concerns forward. And I will be willing to stand up for residents when I believe town decisions or management practices are not serving the best interests of our community.
I believe in responsible growth, supporting local businesses, preserving Mead’s character, and making thoughtful decisions about our future.
Most importantly, I believe government works best when the people it represents are actually heard.
I’m not running because I think I have all the answers.
I’m running because I’m willing to listen.
This is our town.
This is our community.
And together, we have a voice in what Mead becomes next.
