The new thumb here needed a little break from driving a tractor. So he hopped in the truck and drove it. 😆 he did pretty good. Now that he’s a thumb, he thinks he can drink coffee. He’s has a ton to learn but slowly and surely he’ll make it.

It’s a little loud hitting the bottom of the new bin. But it’s music to my ears nonetheless.

It’s a big day today!! We made a move recently to purchase an overhead bin for our DDG cubes. For a while now it’s been a little bit of a headache to fill the cake box on the truck. We’ve had to get the tractor and lift a super sack or what some call a tote bag over a plastic tote that I cut up to use to fill the truck. It’s a little sketchy and nerve racking if you’re a little clumsy. But that comes to an end. The first load of hopefully many has been delivered.
It’s also a debate of mine to start selling DDG cubes in the area. The protein/fat content is about 10%/5% more than what I can get locally. But that’s a bridge I’ll cross later. For now, I’m going to enjoy a little bit of luxury of the overhead bin.
Also!!! Before I forget. Give the guys a call at LNC for your feed needs!

Days like these that are hot and dry will make things crispy. A little spark is all it takes to burn up a countryside. Hay season is here and things get hot, worn out, and fall apart. Sometimes ya get lucky, sometimes ya don’t. We’ve had a few fires already in the area from random things. Just a couple weeks ago there was a close call that was caught in time that’s posted in a separate video. This little setup isn’t anything pretty by a long way but by golly it oughtta work. And work pretty dang good. Pray for rain. Pray for safety. Pray for your neighbors. Eat more beef.

Friends, family, and some coworkers don’t understand me. I’ve made a very large investment into the cattle industry. Large enough that hopefully someday I will be able to just be a cattleman.
Dealing with fires just a short while ago that ravaged the southwestern plains of Kansas. Putting at risk quite literally EVERYTHING. Evacuated the house twice. Spent 42 hours fighting fires in pastures I lease. Damaged my feed truck doing so…don’t ask. Helping neighbors as much as I can. Neighbors helping me as well. It was the most devastating and hopeless feeling I’ve ever felt in my 45 years.
I spend a good amount of money on my livestock. Olivia and myself spend a lot of time with the animals as well. We both realize what they mean and what they are.
It’s hard to get away from them. It’s hard to go take a weeks vacation. It’s hard to put their lives into someone else’s hands because they won’t care for them like you would. It’s just natural human psychology.
So today when I was making the rounds and checking waters and cattle I came across something that set me off. Something that very well could have destroyed so much. The lack of thought and common sense. And possibly just plain stupidity.
Youth and lack of experience definitely weighed on it as well. But you can see below how dangerous a little bit of carelessness can be.
This is reason numero uno why I don’t care how many times I check my cows. I don’t care that people don’t understand. I don’t expect anybody to get it.
Rather it be luck or gods perfect timing. This was doused before it could turn to something bigger.

I should probably tell yall what started this. This was started from the fence crew welding some braces.

Not bad for a guy that had a dream. Had an opportunity and took it. Works a full time truck driving job. Comes home and works on his dream. Some folks have said they don’t know how I do it. Well, dreams don’t just magically come true. You have to ride the grind. Muster up the grit. Grow a backbone and work for it. Stay true to it and drag your knuckles in the dirt if you have to. Pray through the hard times and be humble in the good. This is a little bit of my pride showing and I think I’ve earned the right to show it. This year has been the toughest yet. Fires, drought, excessively warm winter. I still wouldn’t change a thing.
