Our trailer just had a major rehabilitation. Like the price tag would have totaled a vehicle.

Glad to have it back because we immediately put it to work bringing the bull back from the heifers. They only get thirty days to breed. His work isn't done. He was put with the cow herd as they get sixty days in whichto breed.

We ended up breeding 35 percent of the cows the past two days on their second wave and we put the bulls back in tonight....

Now we wait to see how it worked.

The two years olds were put onto sorghum sudan grass for the second time. They already ate it to the ground a month ago and it's over six feet high again. Once it finally started raining the grass took off!

Trying something new this year. Re-synchronizing the cows to AI a second time. We usually have the bulls do all the rebreeding but we had bad luck with bulls the past year and with historically high costs we couldn't afford to purchase enough new ones. So we're going to help the bulls out on this wave of heats.

To become a replacement heifer for the herd you have to jump through many hoops. The candidates must be born in the first 45 days of the calving season, they have to have an acceptable weaning weight, they have to be calm to handle, they have to pass genomic testing scrutiny, then they have thirty days in which to get bred.

That final step started this evening with the 35 candidate heifers being bred artificially. The bull will be put in with them tomorrow.

These heifers did very well on their genomic indexes; all ranking in the top 10% for $C and averaging $313 to put the average in the top 1% of heifers tested throughout the country.

They were all bred this year to Brown JR Damascus. The main herd was bred to the same bull. Hoping for many half siblings next May.

We're celebrating the first calf of the year!

We breed for a May 1st due date and always have some early arrivals. This little heifer calf was AI sired by FHCC Majority 1551 and out of a two year old HPCA Veracious dam.
