There’s nothing like the thrill of Show Like A Pro Dairy Workshop entries opening !

When Ash Lenker was done in the program we were kind of sad. This workshop literally shaped who she is as a fitter and showman and we have so many years of fond memories here. When Colten Clayberger (our lease kid) decided he wanted to do it we were excited to have the opportunity to take him and create new memories!

Entries opened at 0700 and I was on the computer at 0701 to register him and was entry #033!

Highly recommend all youth attend, but slots are filling fast!

The owners of Unique Genetics are Richard Beatty and Emily Emig Beatty (me). Richard and myself are practically high school sweethearts and have been together since 2013, despite many people advising me to run the other way. We were then married in 2022. After a long infertility journey & rough pregnancy, our son was born prematurely in September 2025, but is thriving now!

Richard and I both work off the farm. We actually don’t even live on the farm. We rent our barns from friends of ours to raise our heifers in.

Richard sells Ag equipment for Hayward Distribution, where his territory covers most of PA and all of New Jersey. Richards passion is in purebred Jersey Genetics and he is an avid collector of semen (the tank inventory is 200+ units for 24 animals ). Richard grew up on his family’s 120 cow dairy farm and fell in love with showing from an early age.

I first fell in love with cows looking at pictures and hearing stories from my grandpa, Jake Emig. He showed for Allen Dairy Farms and was a leadsman for many great cows including Wind Drift Countess Nora 2 time & first ever World Dairy Expo Supreme Champion. I work for the Navy and I buy & sell submarine parts! I take great pride in supporting our fleet and the flexibility is nice too.

We are definitely a team when it comes to daily care. Richard takes on more of the feeding and breeding roles, while I lead the washing and paperwork behind the scenes.

We are also heavily involved in the community. We both serve rolls in Cumberland County Farm Bureau, we are the mid Atlantic Regional Show Chairs, and we serve individual rolls, as well. Richard is on the Ship Fair Dairy Committee and the co chair of the Pa Ayrshire & Milking shorthorn sale and I am on the FFA alumni board.

Spent the weekend doing some professional development with Cumberland County Farm Bureau. We toured Goot Essa’s Cheese cave & Dotterer Dairy farm, attended breakout sessions pertaining to ag & listened to Bar 7 Ranch’s keynote session, and networked with friends in all areas of agriculture.

Unique Genetics — Est. 2016

Our herd consists of Jerseys and Milking Shorthorns. Focusing heavily on genetics and showing, we raise our own heifers and more recently started boarding heifers for other people. We rely on good friends (J&S Dairy) to milk the cows for us.

Richard and myself (Emily) started in 2013 under his family’s farm name and quickly realized that we wanted to make a name for ourselves. In 2016 our first animal with the Unique Gen prefix was born, Unique Gen Fused with Excellence. Since then we have had 36 animals born under our prefix & counting!

While we started with jerseys, in 2019 after buying our first shorthorn from BJ Colors, we fell in love with the breed and the number of shorties we own has grown! We also have 2 partnerships with the shorthorns as well, Cool Kid Genetics & the O Faithful Syndicate.

Our Unique Genetics team is huge but the main herd consists of Richard, Emily, & Gavin Beatty; Ashlynne Lenker; & Kenny Beatty!
