Ellie gave us a heifer calf Sunday morning. Mike named her Daisy.

Ellie is the cow we fought to save from listeria several years ago.

I love being out here with the cows. Just waiting for the rest of the calves to be born.

Poor Dorito calved sometime overnight Saturday night or early Sunday morning, but her calf did not survive. It was a heifer.

Dorito comes to me every time I'm out checking the cows or moving them to the next paddock. I feel like she's just hoping I figured out how to revive her poor baby and am bringing it out to her. This is the worst part of losing a calf - seeing the cow grieve and wishing you could have saved the calf so she didn't have to go through this.

Life and death are part of raising livestock, but it still hurts losing one.

Spring and the twins continue to do well. They're out with the rest of the cows grazing the neighbor's cover crop now.

Spring and her calves will join them on pasture in the next couple of weeks as long as everything continues to go well.

Our calving season started officially today with a surprise! Spring had twins! She claimed them both without any issues and they have both nursed, thankfully. We will be keeping a close eye on them.

Clint named them - Rex & Tulip.

It's really crazy. Last year Spring had a set of twins, but there were born too early and were stillborn. I never dreamed she'd have another set of twins this year.

This is so true.

This is so true.

Marriage looks different on a farm.

It isn’t always candlelit dinners and clean clothes.

Most days it looks like muddy boots by the door.
Feed buckets by the barn.
And a list of things that broke overnight.

Sometimes it’s standing in the yard together trying to figure out why the goats got out again.

Sometimes it’s one of you holding the gate while the other tries to move an animal that has absolutely no interest in cooperating.

Sometimes it’s laughing because the cow just stepped in something and splashed it everywhere.

Farm life has a way of humbling you both at the same time.

There are mornings that start before the sun comes up.

Coffee in hand.
Animals waiting.
A quiet kind of teamwork that doesn’t need a lot of words.

And there are nights when the chores aren’t done until the sky is already dark.

Boots muddy.
Hands tired.
But both of you still out there making sure everything is taken care of.

Sometimes it’s standing together in the barn while an animal gives birth.

Holding a flashlight.
Watching closely.
Both of you hoping everything goes the way it should.

And sometimes it’s celebrating a brand new life wobbling onto its feet in the straw.

But there are hard moments too.

The quiet kind.

The kind where you lose an animal you cared about and neither of you say much because there isn’t really anything to say.

Just standing there together, understanding that this life brings joy and heartbreak all in the same breath.

It’s not always glamorous.

But there’s something about building a life together like this.

Fixing things.
Learning as you go.
Watching your kids grow up in the middle of it.

Marriage on a farm isn’t just about loving each other.

It’s about walking through all of it side by side.

One fence.
One animal.
One long day at a time. 🌾

We ended up with about 12" of snow. It really didn't seem to bother the cows.
