🎃Pumpkins🎃

It’s post pumpkin season! Did you know that livestock love pumpkins AND there are actually many benefits to feeding them?

✔️Pumpkins, particularly the seeds and flesh, provide high protein and energy levels, making them excellent feed for livestock at all life stages.
✔️The crude protein of pumpkin fruit is 11 – 17% on a dry matter basis and the seeds are upwards of 30% crude protein.
✔️On a dry matter basis, the TDN (energy) of pumpkin pulp is 60-70%.
✔️Livestock find all parts of the pumpkin plant, seeds, fruit and leaves highly palatable.
✔️Pumpkins can be a supplementary feed for livestock when fresh grass may be limited during the fall grazing season.
✔️Seeds contain compounds that have shown potential in reducing worm load in livestock.
✔️Pumpkins can be a large percentage of the diet with few to no serious health issues.
