Another county fair season is wrapping up! With it will come a change in the flock. We’ve added some new members and will be selling off several others in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

For now…here are two of our newest additions: Potato and Lucky!

Hello SQQ friends! We know it has been ages since we’ve posted…life has been rather hectic this past year. Sadly we also lost a couple of the flock over the past few momths but the rest are doing quite well and enjoying the summer. This past week was the Medina County Fair and we are super proud to announce that our white runner duck SQQ Snowy and one of our East Indie call ducks SQQ Pinky both won Reserve Grand Champion in their respective classes!

We could not be happier with these results! Our son and daughter who showed them at fair for their 4H project were also ecstatic with their placing!

Alas, SQQ mourns the loss tonight of one of our original flock. One of our original Ancona ducks, Hydra, was found dead this evening. No clear cause of death evident. 6 years old. Only two of the original flock of 6 that started all of this duck insanity are left: our Ancona drake Drako and Ancona duck Turbo. Thankfully we have the 3 Ancona ducklings that we hatched this year so fingers crossed at least one or two of them (if not all 3) are female.

The babies are not so little anymore! Yesterday they were given free range privileges. Gustav, on the other hand, has decided they cannot travel far alone.

Well it seems our first ever hatching is over. Unfortunately only 3 of the 11 hatched, but the 3 that did are doing great so far. Today they got a new pen to run around in for a while.

And then there were two! SQQ welcomes Ancona duckling number 2 this evening. They’ve squeezed themselves as far under the warming plate as they can but seem to be doing very well. Always better when you can hang out with a friend! A third egg has pipped and is rocking around a little. No movement from any others but one never knows.

It's that time of year again and the ladies are laying eggs everyday! The kids are selling the eggs from the 4H ducks to help support the cost of their supplies. Our ducks are free-range and very spoiled.

If you have never had duck eggs you should give them a try. They are richer in taste than chicken eggs, great for baking, and if you are allergic to chicken eggs there is a good chance that you might be able to eat duck eggs!

They are selling them for $4. We currently have 5 dozen available.

Gustav is all big and bad and hissing all over the place….until you tuck him under your arm and keeping walking around doing evening chores. Then he’s all kinda “gosh darn it…I was trying to impress my girlfriend. Now I just look stupid.”
