From the Atlantic-influenced breezes of Rรญas Baixas to the rugged, high-altitude schist of Priorat and the golden mile of Ribera del Duero, Spanish wine is defined by its sense of place. On Wednesday, May 20th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, we are hosting a tasting in Spanish viticulture. Led by the incomparable Julie Peppe, whose vast industry expertise is matched only by her engaging storytelling, we will explore five prestigious bottles that represent the pinnacle of modern Spanish winemaking. I put this tasting together because Spanish wine is often misunderstood, people think they know it because theyโ€™ve had a glass of Rioja, but there is so much more to the story. I wanted to bring in bottles that represent the "high-water mark" of what Spain is doing right now.

We have everything from the coastal freshness of Terras Gauda to the sheer, old-vine power of Mas De La Rosa, which is one of the most prestigious wines coming out of the Priorat region today. Having Julie Pepi here to lead us makes this even more special; she has a way of making the technical side of wine feel like a conversation among friends. This is about more than just drinking wine; itโ€™s about understanding the history and the grit it takes to grow grapes in these rugged landscapes.

I like this tasting because it gives people a way to understand why wine is so fascinating. Provence does not taste like New Zealand. Argentina does not taste like California. Each glass has its own personality, and that is what makes this a tasting experience.

This is not meant to be a stuffy wine lecture. It is a chance to sit down, taste through five different styles, ask questions, and maybe discover a region or bottle you would not have picked on your own. With Thomas leading the tasting, this should be the kind of night where everyone walks away knowing a little more and enjoying wine a lot more.

Iโ€™ve always loved gin and the opportunity to expand on the reputation of not just being in tonic with lime. We have discussed the reason it is the original Martini versus vodka. But when I learned to taste gin for what it is, and the craftsmanship behind the spirit, I fell in love with the opportunity to drink it neat. When I tasted these new boutique arrivals, I knew I had to put together an event that treats gin like the serious, sippable spirit it is.
