Never know who will come to visit on the farm! Tonight while I was mixing the chicken feed I looked over at the door jamb in the barn and saw this tree frog hiding from the rain. Pretty cool seeing all the different frogs we have on the farm.

Fun fact! Did you know chickens can’t taste spice? We add cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes to our feed to help prevent parasites in our birds. Our eggs taste the same as they otherwise would, but our flock stays far healthier and happier with this natural defense.

Addie and one of the Buffy hens had a moment together! We work with our hens from the time they’re chicks to make sure they are friendly so we can monitor their health and care easily and without them being uncomfortable or uneasy. Happy and healthy hens always give healthy eggs!

We hired some new help at the farm this weekend! We brought home 14 1-2 year old hens. They’re in temporary accommodations next to our flock so everyone can get acclimated without anyone getting picked on. They’re already laying wonderfully, so if you’ve been by the stand in the last couple weeks and found our supply lacking I apologize for that, but this should help to alleviate our supply issues. I’ll post an update on our little chicks soon, they aren’t so little anymore!
