One of our favorite success stories started right here at the Asian Night Market.

Ming and Xia were vendors at our very first event at Crosstown Concourse. Their grilled booth was set up right next to the stage—and if you were there, you definitely remember it. The line stretched all the way toward the north side of the Concourse, and it never slowed down. The aroma of their juicy, flavorful grilled meats filled the entire space and kept people coming back all night.

That booth was the beginning of something bigger.

Over the past three years, they continued being a vendor at our Night Market and building their brand, Panda Smokehouse, growing a loyal following in the community. And recently, they’ve taken the next step—opening their own restaurant, MingXia Dumpling, where everything is handmade with the same passion that first captured everyone at the Night Market.

We’re excited to share that they’ll be returning again for the 4th Annual Asian Night Market this year—coming full circle to where it all began.

This is what the Asian Night Market is all about—creating opportunities, supporting entrepreneurs, and turning small beginnings into real businesses that contribute to Memphis’ growing food scene.

In February 2024, I was approached by Chris McCoy, a writer for Memphis Magazine, who wanted to tell the story of VAC and share the experiences of Vietnamese immigrants and Vietnamese-American descendants in Memphis. I also provided him several names in the Vietnamese community so he could interview them and hear a wider range of perspectives.

We had our first interview on February 16, 2024. What made it especially meaningful was learning that Memphis Magazine last covered the Vietnamese community back in 1982—making this a powerful continuation of that story more than 40 years later.

The title of the story says it best: “I Am Proud Being Vietnamese.” Grateful for the opportunity to share our journey and help carry our community’s story forward. 💛
