It is with a very sad heart I have to inform you that one of our members, Mr. Jim Hawks passed away today.

Well it is in the book, Memphis In May 2019.
Proud to say that the team finished in a very respectful 25th place out of well over 100 teams in the rib category.
Good job guys and gals.
Hope to see everybody again next year.
Now on maybe to the next contest. This one is on our bucket list and will be announced in the very near future.

Serial Grillers had a nice weekend competing in Southaven Springfest!
It was a dual, MBN and KCBS
Not really sure what happened in the MBN pulled pork and rib categories but we were very happy with the boxes we turned in. Let’s just say that I am disappointed in a couple of judges or possibly one judge across 2 categories.
At the risk of being labeled a whiner, neither one of our boxes deserved an 8 in anything much less tenderness. Hopefully they will reign in this ignorance.
KCBS judges were a little more agreeable and might I say knowledgeable. 2 Top 10’s, 4th in Rib and 8th in Brisket.
Thanks to Chris Hughes and #Thomasmeatandseafoods.com in Col. for some fine ribs, chicken, butts and briskets. Top shelf meats and service! Kudos!! That Wagyu Brisket, Butcher Block pork, Springer Mountain Chicken and Smithfield comp Ribs were awesome!!

Murphysboro, IL. 'Praise The Lard' recap:
Phil Lemoine and I were supposed to leave Thursday afternoon but due to work related delays I had we postponed departure until early Friday morning. Randy Cannon left earlier from Huntsville, AL. All was going smooth until we entered MO. About 20 miles south of Cape Girardeau, boom!! Tire blows apart. Thank goodness for tandem axles. The new fender took a little beating but Phil got it back in shape. We get the spare mounted and Phil looks over at the other wheel and says, "look at those lug nuts on the back wheel!" Every one of the lug nuts were loose. Later on in the trip, Phil and I agree that the flat tire was a Blessing......turns out it was just the 1st of a few blessings we had on our trip...
We get to our site at the BBQ and what do ya know, some old friends had pulled in late the night before and accidentally parked in our site. Blessing #2- our neighbors are old friends, Boars Night Out!
Hot doesn't quite describe the weather, but I'm just gonna leave it there. Blessing #3, we have air conditioning thanks to team member and head Hog Cook David Smith!
Really looking forward to him joining us on our cooking treks.
We get set up and start prepping our fine meats from Thomas Meat and Seafood in Collierville TN. Premium Smithfield Competition Ribs for MBN and KCBS, Butcher Block Premium Boston Butts, Springer Mountain Chicken and a Prime Brisket. Blessing #4- we have a wonderful, and service oriented meat supplier and friend in Chris Hughes , Thomas Meat and Seafood. This blessing everyone can experience, tell'em Serial Grillers sent ya!
Saturday Phil Lemoine, Randy Cannon and I turned in some fine products for the judges. Finaled in MBN Rib. We ended up with a 3rd place. Blessing #5- with all those awesome teams out there, we were blessed to receive a perfect score in Prelims. Randy Cannon is the best Rib cook in the World with trophies to prove it. Just saying! We finished 11th out of 21 very talented Bbq teams in MBN Pulled Pork. KCBS categories, let's just say we are learning. 17th Butts, 38th Rib and chicken out of 50'something. Brisket was our only disappointment for the weekend. Just wasn't our best.
Did I mention we are learning. We are old so our learning cure is a little longer. Ha!

What a great weekend for The Serial Grillers. There is only one thing that could have made it better. If every Serial Griller team member could have been with us in more than just spirit.
The Serial Grillers are probably finished for the year due to my work schedule but who knows, maybe not......
