It's OKRA season -

Soil is a living ecosystem, not just dirt. Bare soil is effectively "naked, thirsty, and starving." Keeping living roots in the ground year-round keeps the ecosystem nourished, structured, and protected. Growing plants in clover instead of bare ground protects soil health, adds natural fertilizer, a...

THIS is just sad. We love Bobby Kennedy but if even he was fooled by this it shows what true organic growers are up against.

OrganicEye says Alexandre Family Farm misled top officials after losing certifications amid USDA-confirmed organic law and animal welfare violations.

WHEN I WAS A KID WE TRUSTED BAYER!

They were the nice people who made aspirin. Now we know that they also brought us he**in and synthetic nitrogen used in chemical agriculture and making bombs. Their best selling product is Roundup (glyphosate) which the world uses 1.5 BILLION pounds of a year. The University of Washington found a 41% increased risk of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma among people with the most glyphosate exposure. Then the treatment includes chemotherapy in which the chemicals used are also supplied by BAYER. Talk about a broken system!
-----Real Organic Project
When we were young and in Bible school, several of us were eating together and we asked "MOM Rowley" to bless our meal. When she said "Lord please protect us from this food we are about to eat," we all laughed, but it is no longer funny.

Our produce is SAFE, CERTIFIED ORGANIC and also NUTRITIOUS.

Is it Organic or is it NOT?

Unfortunately agricultural economists estimate that roughly 50% of all certified organic tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers sold in the U.S. are now hydroponically grown. And it is growing.

Because hydroponics does not use soil—which is a founding principle for traditional organic agriculture—the certification process remains highly controversial in the United States. While the U.S. remains one of the only countries in the world that allows hydroponic produce to be certified as organic, about a third of U.S. organic certifiers refuse to grant organic labels to soilless operations.

SO, when you pick up something that SAYS USDA Certified Organic there is a 50% chance that it is not grown in soil with all the microbes etc. that God intended.

This is why even though we are SMALL, we have a secondary certification with the REAL ORGANIC Project which will only certify somebody who goes a step beyond the USDA certification which means it must be grown in soil! It is because WE CARE and So Should You!

We know you will be happy that we have our first few potatoes this week. We are growing three varieties but only one of them is ready. This week we have some Dark Red Norland potatoes which are good for boiling or roasting. Fresh potatoes are SO good.

REMEMBER- potatoes are on the EWG Dirty Dozen list.
Conventional potatoes are on the Environmental Working Group's (EWG) Dirty Dozen list of produce with the highest pesticide residues. They landed on the list largely due to the widespread presence of chlorpropham, a sprout-inhibiting herbicide that has been banned in the European Union over health concerns.

The ripe tomatoes last week were an early taste. It will be a week or two before more will be ready.

We have beautiful kale this week and a few lettuces with more growing. We've seen the first baby cucumbers and eaten the first blueberries.

Electric fencing is going up to hopefully save some things including the blueberries that were totally consumed by the deer last year.

Store Opens in the morning at 9 am. until Friday at 3 pm.
Order pick up at the Agricenter Saturday from 10-11 am.
