Yesterday was a GOOD DAY! 🙌🏾 I set a goal for myself for 901 Day, and the support showed UP! I’m truly grateful for every single person who ordered, shared my post, tagged somebody, sent somebody my way, or simply supported Food for Thought Specialized Catering & Events.

One thing I’ve always understood in business is that everybody may not always be able to afford your regular prices — and that’s okay. That doesn’t mean they don’t WANT to support you.

That’s why yesterday meant so much to me. 🥹💙

The $90.01 meal prep special gave some people an opportunity to support who may not normally be able to purchase my regular meal prep package, and Y’ALL SHOWED OUT! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

And I want people to understand: running a special doesn’t decrease the value of my work. Sometimes it’s simply about meeting your customers where they are, giving back, creating an opportunity, and letting people experience what you have to offer.

Yesterday reminded me that my community DOES support me. 💛

After 10 years in business, I’m still learning, growing, pivoting, and finding new ways to serve the people who continue to pour into me.

This weekend was a lot. So many things were happening all at once.

First, THANK YOU to everyone who came to The Genre and purchased food after Mother Nature ruin what was supposed to be a great event. What was supposed to be a profitable weekend quickly turned into me simply trying to get rid of food that had already been purchased, prepped, cooked, and paid for.

I issued 4 refunds, and the remainder of my preorders now have credits with me. By the time everything was said and done, financially, it was a complete loss. I’m in the hole.

This is the side of business customers don’t always get to see.

The groceries were already bought.
The food was already prepared.
My staff was already scheduled.
The money had already been spent.

A thunderstorm doesn’t refund a business owner.

To my staff who stayed, pivoted, and helped wherever you could — THANK YOU. I appreciate y’all more than you know.

And to my brothers, my friends in business, THE TWINS… I will go to war about y’all! 🥹❤️

For y’all to make the decision not to serve food from your own restaurant and instead have your guests order from my menu from the event, so I could TRY to recover some of the money I had tied up in all those prepared meals… THAT WAS EVERYTHING TO ME.

You didn’t have to do that.

That kind of love, support, and selflessness will NEVER go unnoticed or be forgotten. I promise y’all that.

Sometimes you can plan.
You can prepare.
You can spend the money.
You can have the staff.
You can have the customers.
You can do everything right…

…and something completely outside of your control can still leave you taking the loss.

And this weekend, I TOOK THE LOSS.

I’m disgusted. I’m disappointed. And yes, it hurts because I know exactly how much money, work, time, and preparation went into this weekend.

But I’m still grateful for every person who pulled up, purchased something, shared a post, sent somebody my way, helped me move food, or simply tried to help me make the best out of a bad situation.

This weekend was a loss financially, but the love people showed me was something I’ll never forget. ❤️

Being a business owner ain’t always pretty.

Sometimes you really do have to take the L, learn from it, and keep going. 💔🙏🏾

Happy Monday Foodies 🍽️

Today reminded me why having policies in business is so important.

As a business owner, I’ve learned that everyone is not my client—and I’m genuinely okay with that. My business has been built over the last 10+ years on professionalism, consistency, and integrity. My policies aren’t created to make things difficult; they’re there to protect both my clients and my business.

Requiring deposits or full payment before an event isn’t unusual. It’s standard practice across many industries. If my policies don’t work for someone, I completely respect that, and I encourage them to find a business that better fits their needs.

What I won’t accept is having my character questioned or being called a scam simply because I stand by the policies that have helped me successfully operate for over a decade.

You don’t have to book with me. You don’t have to agree with my policies. But you do have to respect my business the same way I respect yours.

To every client who has trusted me over the years—thank you. Your referrals, reviews, repeat business, and support speak louder than false accusations ever could.

Knowing your clientele is part of being a successful business owner. I’d rather lose a booking than compromise my standards or allow anyone to play with my name.

Here’s to protecting your peace, your reputation, and the business you’ve worked hard to build. 💚
