Chicken put themselves up for the evening. Several usually start to go into their coop an hour or more before dark. There will always be some that hang out even as dark is approaching mainly eating. That's probably because they don't get enough to eat during the day around the feeders due to pecking order so they are loading up.
Chickens are food for predators so they like to feel safe up high at night, therefore they will go into their coop and perch on perches so they are off the ground. We leave their door open because we have two Great Pyrenees to keep them protected from all predators.

With over 300 hens collecting eggs can take awhile. We are thankful or these Hengear nesting boxing for making it a good bit easier.
