Well! Milk test #4 is finally done... I didn't make it happen in July, but did keep the goats alive! I keep saying "if Polka keeps up these numbers I will have to VT [verification test] her". I want to go down to once a day, but keep waiting for a big production drop.

DIM stands for Days in Milk, P is for protein and F is for fat

Polka: 188 DIM, 1100 # 3.8%P 5.4%F
Piña: 184 DIM, 651 # 4.1%P 6.2%F
Meme: 179 DIM, 656 # 3.8% 4%F
Penny: 124 DIM, 498 # 3.6% 5.3%F

Everyone's fat levels are much better (except for Meme, but she's just a pill anyway)! Both Piña (yearling) & Meme earned their milk stars as first fresheners this test, which is very exciting. And Polka passed the 1k milker milestone!

Flor (to be Laurentide Flor de Luna) is a total beefcake! Elegant? Eh... But her rump blows me away, she has more width than some of my older does, and I love her casual no-nonsense personality! She reminds me a lot of her grandmother SG Sugar Moon O Moon Flower, who she is named for. She's only slightly shorter than her mother and I am suspicious they weigh the same - I'll be weighing everyone next week as I prepare for a season of only breeding first fresheners.

She and Sutton are my top picks for does this year! Both out of the late, great, Rockstar. I think I am super excited to see them both freshen, both their dams have udders I am happy to see more of!

Just another picture of my newest layer's egg. I added a picture of her, too. She's a big girl, the same size as my bielefelders so I imagine her eggs will be. similar size when they stop being pullet eggs. All of my blue layers are currently molting, so my Welsummers, Bielefelders, and 55 Flowery are holding down the fort while I wait for my next two olive egger pullets to lay. Then my horde of Svarthönas & two Bielefelder/Isabel Ameraucanas should probably begin laying before winter sets in.

The first pullet egg from one of my crosses, I'm almost positive this is from my Cream Legbar/Bielefelder and not the two Blue Splash Ameraucana/Bielefelder hens - although they should lay a similar color. Began the process of working on pictures of this year's kids! It went.... okay. Sutton, my pick of Polka's quads, is really growing into something I'm interested to keep watching! Worcester, her littermate, is not built like her sister but I look forward to freshening them both next year. You may also be able to tell who was more cooperative (it wasn't Worcester).

Both the girls 5 months old, and eventually my daughter and I will get good at pictures - especially when I find I nice flat spot that doesn't have grass so we can see some feet!

Udder improvement on Rose Acre A Diary of Jayne 4*M (98th Percentile, Elite!) in her daughter, Laurentide Papaya Penny. Penny was teeny yearling first freshener, who probably should have gotten another year. She's pumping out the milk - unfortunately I didn't get her second test done in time for an August evaluation, but I'm excited to see how she does over the winter.

Currently, she's on my cull list due to conformation and her tiny frame but a lot can happen over the winter. I love evaluation time! It helps me think about my 2027 plans, and see where we are standing. My feed plan is my biggest hiccup right now, but I'm coming up with some ideas for next year!
