Kids don’t build confidence, skills, or friendships by watching life on a screen.
They build them by getting involved.

Programs like FFA, 4-H, Scouts, sports, dance, gymnastics, theater, choir, art and other extracurricular activities give kids the chance to:

Learn how to work with others
Try new things
Take responsibility
Build confidence
Develop real friendships

These experiences help shape who they become.

Screens entertain.
Real life builds.

Encourage your kids to get involved, step outside their comfort zone, and be part of something bigger than themselves.

Many apps and platforms are built around something called dopamine — a brain chemical that creates a “feel good” response and keeps you coming back.

Likes, notifications, endless scrolling, and short videos create small bursts of that feeling that keep people engaged.

Over time, this can make screens harder to put down and everyday life feel less stimulating.

The problem is not technology itself — it’s when constant stimulation replaces real-life experiences like learning, creating, working, and connecting with others.

Instead, make space for real life.

Rates of anxiety, depression and su***de among young people have increased over the past decade.
There are many factors involved, but researchers are increasingly studying how social media, constant comparison, isolation, and heavy screen use may contribute.
Young people need more than digital connection.
They Need:
supportive families
real friendships
meaningful work
time outdoors
guidance from adults who are present.
Connection Matters!

Too much screen time can lead to isolation and addiction.
Children need conversation, connection, guidance, and real-life experiences.
Talk with them.
Work together.
Eat meals as a family.
Spend time outdoors.
The best memories and the strongest relationships are built off the screen.
How does your family limit screentime?

Try this simple habit:
Eat together around the table at least once a week.
No phones.
No TV.
No screens.
Just time together.
Use that time to talk about the week:
What went well this week?
What was challenging?
What are we doing right as a family?
What can we work on together?
It doesn't have to be perfect.
It just has to be intentional.
Some of the most important conversations in a family happen around a table.
Strong families grow though connection.
Does your family have a regular meal together during the week?

They’re watching how you handle stress, how you speak to others, how you respond to mistakes, and how you show up when life feels hard.

Long before they follow our advice, they follow our example.

If we want respectful kids, we model respect.
If we want resilient kids, we show them how to keep going.
If we want kind kids, we let them see kindness in action.

Parenting isn’t about perfection — it’s about intention.

Reflection: What are your children learning from watching you today?

When we allow ourselves — and our kids — to make mistakes without shame, we create space for growth. We teach them that setbacks aren’t the end of the story; they’re the beginning of understanding.

As parents, the goal isn’t to rush in and fix the mistake. It’s to slow down and talk it through. Ask questions like, What do you think went wrong? or What could we try differently next time? Help them reflect, adjust, and try again.

When kids learn that mistakes are safe, they learn to think critically, problem-solve, and build confidence. And those lessons — learned in small, everyday moments — shape who they become.
