Well we've officially added pigs to our Homestead...
When my husband and I started our Homestead 4 years ago, the first animal that was an automatic no for us, was pigs. We both have had our experiences with them over the years and we just weren't fans of them.
Our pasture is mostly swamp. To add to it, the previous owners made several trash piles, many "burn" piles of downed trees and stumps, and also many piles of old barbed wire had been left behind. Over the years those piles have been overtaken by brambles, vines and tall grass- making it extremely hard to find the areas that need cleaning. Without heavy machinery- its a job that we just can't tackle.
Recently, we stumbled upon some research on how effective pigs are for cleaning/clearing land. Pigs are highly effective "natural rototillers". They use their snouts to uproot brush, weeds, vines, roots and brambles. All while fertilizing and revitalizing the soil.
So we are excited to see what these pigs can do for us and for our land. The bonus is that they'll add to our freezer in the fall. πππ
