Duley Farms LLP / Dairy Farm

Duley Farms LLP / Dairy Farm Brothers Mark and Steve Duley, along with Mark's wife Amy, are the 3rd generation on the family farm. We are a 180 milking cow dairy farm.

We are milking 235 cows, and we raise all our replacements and crops. We raise our own calves and replacement heifers. We also raise our own crops to feed the cows on 680 acers. We have 83 acers fenced in for the cows to graze on, and we rotate the pastures daily.

Been a super busy summer but found some time to deep clean the calf milk house this morning. I can't believe how much stuff was in that 20x20 building! Now not only is the room clean, the dumpster is full!

Summer sure has been screaming by! Between making more small square bales than anyone wants to stack in a hot mow on the recent 90+° days to filling 2 bunkers with alfalfa haylage and working on a new building we've been what some people would call BUSY! Now it's time to shift gears and get the finishing touches done on the fair animals with the kids. I can't believe it is almost August!

Should have started an hour sooner yesterday afternoon. Baling with both balers with thunder and lightning chasing us. Mother Nature won again. It's been a frustrating June with all the rain here's to a new month and less frustrating hay harvest!

Hang on babies...mama's coming!

As a side note the babies are just fine and well cared for in their hutches under that snow. The snow removal is for 2 reasons...
1- make life 100% easier for the humans caring for the calves
2- make the melt coming in 2 days happen away from the hutches to help keep the babies dry

A visual of our current situation. 30.7" of snow since Saturday night. All essential routes are open on the farm but here's the hutches. The first Pic is of the west side where there are no calves. The second is the east side that have calves in them. The good thing is the snow is a great insulator so the calves are nice and warm in there!

Just an FYI. This farm and no other farms will be closed today. We will be trudging through the knee to hip deep snow to milk our cows, feed our animals and check on all things on the farm today. It's been a long morning getting everything done but we'll be ready to do it all again in a few hours! Stay safe out there and thank you to all the other farmers out there working through snowmagedon!

And thank you to out county and town plow truck drivers doing their best to keep the roads passable.

Trying our best to keep our calves in tip top shape through this cold includes and extra feeding at midnight.

You can do everything right on the farm to prepare for-49° wind chills but some days it's still not enough. Took 12 hours to just get through the morning chores yesterday. Hopefully today is better. Just as cold, currently -24°, but very little wind. Fingers crossed for a smoother day!
