This was the first time Pedro was so close to a train. When he got nervous, I began to do some familiar ground work with him that calmed him down, which is why I stopped videoing when he began walking. He remained calm and stayed connected. Situations like these can become scary or not, depending on what tools you have in your toolbag horsemanship-wise, but in this case, Mulemanship-wise! ♥️

Most horses like to be stroked or petted, rather than patted. When we get firm or vigorous, like patting a big dog, they can get accustomed to it, but it doesn’t feel very nice to them.

If you want to reward or calm them, think how it felt when their mama licked them as a foal.
