Our mission is to 1) help people eat well by sourcing food from local, sustainable farms and 2) supply people with the knowledge and tools to be successful in their gardening pursuits. LBN began in 2003, carrying organic gardening supplies, eventually adding a line of soil and compost products, hydroponics supplies and even home brew supplies. Since starting our regenerative, pasture-based farm -- Local Cooling Farms -- in 2015, our focus has shifted to offering our own farm products (grass-fed beef and goat meat and pasture-raised eggs and pork) alongside other local foods grown or produced in our region: pasture-raised dairy and chicken, Gulf seafood, organically grown produce, value-added products like ferments and pickles, jams and jellies, rice, pasta, bread, coffee, sauces and more. You can shop in our store, pre-order online and pick up in store or from one of our neighborhood delivery hubs around New Orleans and the Northshore. We still produce high quality soil and compost blends and offer them alongside organic seeds, fertilizers and gardening amendments. Overall we want to help you eat and grow the best food that you can in our region!

It’s really looking like fall now in the local grocery spread! Persimmons, apples, roselle, sweet potatoes, greens and more in now and more winter squashes and root veggies coming tomorrow, too!

Thank you for keeping us so busy last week! Thought we were going to be a little slower yesterday and then we had a slew of customers all afternoon and evening. ☺️

We’re open in Metairie today through Saturday and we have farm hubs in Mandeville, Covington and Irish Channel and home deliveries in surrounding neighborhoods, as well as in Lakeview, Mid-City and Gentilly.

That feeling when you thought you were going to have to do a bunch of hurricane prep and now (knock on wood) you don’t?

It’s practice is cancelled vibes with a big sigh of relief!

So now apparently we can just resume our normal plans for the week, which includes tons of gorgeous local food!

Faust Farms is harvesting fall tomatoes, eggplant and peppers and we got some fun greens (Toyko bekana and broccoli rabe for braising, plus little gem lettuce, arugula and pea shoots) from River Queen Greens.

Of course, don’t miss the new Local Cooling Farms goat sausages and restocked beef and goat cuts, the graNOLA restock, fresh dairy, apples, mushrooms, head lettuces, eggs and more either!

There’s still time to get your orders in for:

*️⃣ Our biweekly Bywater farm hub at Parleaux B**r Lab this evening, 5-6 pm. Home deliveries in surrounding neighborhoods beforehand, too.

*️⃣ Our weekly home delivery route in parts of Metairie, Lakeview, Mid-City and Gentilly this afternoon.

*️⃣ Our other weekly delivery route in parts of Downtown through Uptown, Broadmoor, Carrollton, Old Jefferson and Old Metairie tomorrow afternoon.

Our Local Cooling Farms grass-fed, grass-finished beef is restocked!

And our wild-foraged goat meat is restocked, too, along with a bunch of new goat sausages including Greek gyro, jalapeno, chorizo and Italian links.

Do I look happy (and proud) in this picture? Yes!

Did I also literally cry while putting all the individually packaged goat hearts in the freezer? Also yes. 😩

Raising livestock is a trip, y’all. It’s worth it, but it’s also bittersweet and involves some level of grief and mourning along with the pride and satisfaction and gratitude.

We are certainly keeping our eyes on Tropical Storm Isaias and will tuck everything back in the generator backed up freezer warehouse tomorrow or Friday if we must! But the forecast is looking better and better for us and for now, we’re fully operational at the shop in Metairie this week and for our usual hubs and home delivery routes. 🙏

Whether it’s before or after the storm, plan to get you some beef and goat meat! 🥩

Y’all, we went through this week a little having AC problems and having to replace a freezer, but we’re still here! And the shop is currently cool and all fridges and freezers are working! ✊🪵😅

And no equipment drama will get in the way of us bringing you local food from our farm and from our fellow farmers and producers!

We’ve got some signs of fall in the market this week with kabocha squash and roselle hibiscus and tomatoes and bell peppers that took a break because of the heat are back, too, though!

Don’t sleep on the blueberry whipped cream cheese (more fresh bread coming tomorrow to go with it!), plus pasta, pastured pork, basil, infused sea moss gels and lots more.

We’ve got hubs in Mandeville, Covington and Irish Channel this week, plus home deliveries in those and surrounding neighborhoods and home deliveries only in Lakeview, Mid-City and Gentilly.

And man, retail. We were kind slow Friday and Saturday and made up for it today! 😳

Garlic, more arugula, beets, okra, microgreens, dairy, pasta and eggs came in today and tomorrow we restock all cuts of chicken from A&A Acres first processing of the fall.

And there’s still plenty of time to get your orders in for our farm hubs in Algiers Point and Bywater tomorrow and Thursday or home deliveries routes in Lakeview, Mid-City and Gentilly Thursday and Downtown through Uptown, Old Jefferson and Old Metairie on Friday. 🤗

Gearing up for another week with lots of beautiful local groceries!

We’ve got plenty of Alabama apples in stock and we also have a sale on duck eggs and small eggs from the juvenile hen (pullet) flock, milk and cream on sale, too, restocked Gingerbooch beverages and veggie ferments, plus more romaine lettuce and Homegrown in Folsom salad greens, radishes, cucumbers and eggplant, hummus, yogurts and cheeses, pastured and grassfed meats, Gulf seafood and more.

Hub and delivery email reminders are going out tomorrow and Wednesday, but you don’t have to wait to order. We’ll have hubs in Algiers Point and Bywater this week and our usual Lakeview-Mid-City and Downtown-Uptown home delivery routes.

Open tomorrow through Saturday in Metairie, too! Come see us!
