The cold sure is here!! Our hens are prepped and ready to go for the winter. ❄️❄️

To provide additional natural warmth for the hens, we use the deep-litter method. This involves periodically laying bedding material (we use pine shavings) on the coop floor, allowing it to accumulate and gradually compost inside the coop. Throughout the winter fresh pine shavings will be added on top regularly, creating a deep bedding that traps warmth & improves insulation. As the lower layers decompose, they generate gentle heat. The pine shavings help keep the hens warm, dry, insulated & reduces the need for artificial heating.

Every carton of eggs from Raised Right Pastures supports a veteran-owned family-run farm, ethical animal care, and soil restoration for future generations. When you buy local, you’re investing in healthier food & a healthier community. You may not know that we collect our eggs from roll-away nesting boxes. This results in clean eggs with their bloom, protective coating, intact! Because the eggs are unwashed and sold with their bloom, they are good outside of the fridge for 30 days and an additional 30 days after that in the fridge. A trip to our farm can get you stocked up on eggs for a good while!! 😉😉
