Our crew stopped for lunch today at Wiley’s Championship BBQ on Whitemarsh Island, and it was an outstanding experience. The brisket was easily the best we’ve had during our trip.

The ribs, pulled pork, sausage, and chicken were all excellent as well, and the kids especially enjoyed the cheese sticks. The sauce was fantastic too. We weren’t expecting the name — “Better Than Sex” — which led to some jokes among the adults while the kids were a bit embarrassed by it.

Overall, it was a great experience with excellent food. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks to everyone at Wiley's Championship BBQ for the hospitality and a memorable meal.

Ate dinner at the Rusty Pig in Glenville tonight. Unfortunately, you could definitely tell and taste that it was a major reheat. First couple of bites of brisket were okay. Then it just got dry and stiff and could see the scorch mark on the brisket itself.

The smoked chicken - skin was leathery but chicken was overly dry. Ribs were great. Chopped pork was cold. It was probably great when it was fresh.

All in all, the things that were fresh, non bbq items, were very good according to those with us.

Pitmaster Pilgrimage exists to chart the living map of great barbecue and smoked meats—discovering, documenting, and celebrating the smokehouses, pitmasters, and regional traditions that turn fire and time into community. We travel with curiosity and respect, capture honest scores and stories, and share clear routes, photos, and notes so anyone can find unforgettable plates, support local pit crews, and keep the craft burning bright—one slow-smoked stop at a time.

We stopped by Roy's Nuts an Butts for lunch and had a great experience. One of the first things that stood out was the impressive variety of sauces available, which added a lot of character to the meal. The building itself has a cool, authentic feel, and seeing the smokers out back really adds to the atmosphere.

The Brunswick stew was outstanding, and it’s easy to see why it’s considered a number-one winner. The pulled pork and ribs were both excellent and full of flavor. As usual, the ladies opted for burgers, and they said they were delicious as well.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable visit with great food and a welcoming environment. If you’re in the area, Roy’s is definitely worth a stop—you won’t be disappointed.

Brinson's BBQ Millen, Georgia, located just outside of Millen, was our first stop on the pilgrimage, and it turned out to be exactly what we hoped for. The restaurant is a small cinder block building with limited seating, but it delivers a big experience where it counts.

The pulled pork was excellent—full of flavor and cooked just right. The ladies in our group ordered the AJ Burger, and everyone who tried it had great things to say about it. It was a big hit at the table.

We will definitely be back. If you’re in the area, don’t let the modest exterior fool you—step inside and enjoy a great meal. We also appreciated the brief history lesson about the restaurant that we received as we were leaving. The folks there were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better.

We stopped at Jomaxx in Metter during our trip, and unfortunately this was one stop we likely won’t be returning to. While we don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, our experience was disappointing.

The pulled pork was quite dry, and the brisket was especially underwhelming. It was tough, lacked moisture, and appeared to have been reheated, with noticeable scorch marks on the meat.

To be fair, two members of our group mentioned their meals were “decent,” but overall the experience didn’t meet our expectations. Hopefully others have had better experiences here, but this visit was not a highlight for our crew.

We had dinner at Baby CJ’s and had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, the restaurant was exceptionally clean, and the atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable. The staff was friendly and provided great service, which made the visit even better.

Overall, it was a very pleasant dining experience, and we would highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. We look forward to visiting again in the future.
