This post is going to get a little personal. In 2022, the week after making our first batch of pickles my mom was hospitalized due to complications with her Parkinson's disease that she had lived with for many years. Obviously my focus was completely on her and our family during this time. Her condition continued to worsen and we lost her that September.
Shortly thereafter, we sold our little house on Lindsey Ave. and relocated to a new home here in Miamisburg. My wife and I worked hard to establish new garden beds at the new house, but between trying to settle into the new space and small gardens that just didn't perform like our old trusted dirt. We couldn't make any pickles for 2023.
My mom always loved seeing the following our pickles had created over the years and would tell me that someday we would be full time pickle makers. She had a way of believing in us that can't be replicated. In August of 2023 my wife and I invested in a 5 acre property on Orchard Hill that will become the future home of our gardens. We have been preparing the land and are very excited to bring our pickles back to our community.
Today we started the first seeds that will go into the ground this spring!!! It was a therapeutic night of sticking our hands in dirt to grow something wonderful. I couldn't help but think that mom would be proud and excited for us. We look forward to updating you all of the progress this year. We cannot wait to share this year's pickles with all of you!!
