I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much we’ve gotten used to food being cheap, convenient, and available all the time.

But cheap doesn’t always mean inexpensive.

Sometimes the price we save at the grocery store comes with a cost we don’t see on the receipt. The more ingredients we can’t pronounce, the more additives, preservatives, dyes, and fillers… it makes you stop and think about what we’re actually feeding ourselves and our families.

There’s something really comforting about buying a tomato from a local grower, getting eggs from a nearby farm, or picking up vegetables that were grown just down the road. You know where it came from. You can recognize what you’re eating.

I’m not saying we have to grow everything ourselves or never buy a packaged food again. Life doesn’t always work that way. I just think it’s worth paying a little more attention to what we’re putting in our bodies.

Sometimes spending a little more on good, local food is money well spent.

Happy National Farm Stand Day!! 👩🏻‍🌾🍅🫑🌽🥒🌶️

National Farm Stand Day!

I don’t know about you, but I love finding a little farm stand on the side of the road. (Yes I BRAKE for farm stands)

You pull over, see what they have, maybe grab some tomatoes, sweet corn, eggs, flowers, homemade bread… whatever happens to be there that day. And I actually love that you don’t always know what you’re going to find.

I think that’s part of the fun.

And every time I stop at one, I can’t help but think about the person who grew it, made it, baked it, or raised it. It’s somebody from our community just trying to do something they love and share it with the people around them.

That’s something I really want to see more of here in Indiana.

More little farm stands. More people growing things. More neighbors buying from neighbors. More of those little roadside stops that you almost miss if you aren’t paying attention.

So today, go find a farm stand. (Our map will help)

Buy something. Try something new. Or just stop and look around.
