Throughout the week we’ve received feedback about Opening Day for the Staunton Farmers Market. Thank you to everyone for sharing your thoughts with us, so that we can continue to grow in our new home. One of the biggest challenges shared was that the ADA spaces dedicated for the J&DR Court Building were too far away from the Farmers Market entrance. We’ve also heard feedback about parking availability and the traffic getting backed-up coming into the Market. At this point, we are eager to share several updates that we’ve been working on since Saturday:
We now have three ADA spaces dedicated for Market customers at the entrance to the Market closest to the Court Building. Those spaces are in the aisle against the metal barriers. Entering this way will get you to music, SNAP, apple cider doughnuts, as well as compost and community guests. The vendors are just beyond that row.
Thank you to Shelby Clements for filling those potholes!
Our fantastic partners at Public Works have cleaned up the concrete pad for spillover parking, so there should be plenty available going forward.
We are working on increasing signage to make traffic flow into the Market smoother. That signage will guide everyone to drive straight up towards the Court Building to look for parking first, before turning towards overflow parking on the concrete pad or down towards Beverley St. We hope this will keep the entrance clear and maximize the turning window at the light. Entering the Market from Grubert St. also provides easier access.
Lastly, please be respectful of our neighbor Stella Mia Pizzeria and their designated parking spaces; we ask that our customers do not park in those spaces at any time.
Once again, we are grateful for your patience and adaptability as we learn, too. We look forward to making the Market more accessible for everyone in our beloved community.
