We tried to escape the difficult Virginia weather by taking refuge outside of Arundel, West Sussex, having heard that conditions were friendlier across the pond. Unfortunately, our initial hopes were dashed as we arrived to falling snow, frozen ground, and impassable roads, which cancelled several of our planned hunts with the Chiddingfold, Leconfield and Cowdray. So, being forced to improvise, we took to hiking between pubs, chasing wild New Forest ponies, and trying to steal the Queen's Cleveland Bays. Desperation to find the back of a horse got so dear, that even a midnight ride on the London carousel seemed an improvement. Thankfully, after 10 days of biped only transport, mother nature finally acquiesced, giving us a beautiful day of hunting with the Surrey Union across the North Downs. The Masters, secretaries, and membership were extremely gracious and we had a great day of sport from the Wintershall Estate.
