Swarm # 17! Again they did not make it inside the box, so we had to go very late to get them, we tried to scoop and put into a hive, but they where wrapped around the trap and into the fork of the tree, so we had to use the bee vacumme. Came home with bees in the trap, a hive and a vaccume and left at 12:55am! Its a 45 minute drive, but the bees here are amazingly strong, healthy and prolific. I love having their genetics in my bee yards, bonus.... they are also nice bees!!

Put them all close and tarped them for the night or should I say morning and got up at 8 and went and combined them all into the hive.

Was the queen in the hive, the trap, the vaccume??? Is there a queen at all?? We will be adding
A frame of eggs from a hive that came from the same location last year and see if they start making queen cells, if not, she's in there.

Update!!!! Her royal highness is in the hive!!!

The tree that keeps on giving! Swarms # 13 &14!

These are the 3 & 4th casts ( swarms) from the bee tree in Kimmel Indiana! The property owner never seen the first swarm, but given the sizes of the 2&3 virgin casts, it must have been very big!! The 4th cast from this tree produced a tiny two handfuls of bees swarm. But, another queen always comes in handy!

Keeping the tiny baby nuc in the house and will find her a better place to hang out and be tended too in the morning.

Swarm #10 today inside a home!! Its parent hive is inside the floor & celing of this historicle house in Angola, Indiana.

A cut out removal will be schedualed soon. But for now these gals have got to get out of the bee vac and into a hive as its getting cold!

The parent hive can bee seen in the hole that looks like a chipmunk chewed.

Where not exactly sure how the bees accessed the inside of the home, but they Indeed did. We think they made thier way around the window studs and then around some old ducting into the house, then tried to get back outside at a closed and not operable window.

Now 9pm suns down and 45 degrees, we turned the bee vac bucket upside down on drawn combs and a frame of honey and put a contractor trash bag over all for the night, secured with a lashing strap, best we can do for this late. The girls should be fine, we will get a proper lid on in the morning.

Is there a queen?!! Since the setting sun was blinding us the entire time we were vacuuming the bees, we have no idea!!

This may also not be an actual swarm, per se, but a large number of workers exploring thier home for expansion and the light from the window attracting them into the room.

Regardless of what it is, these girls are lucky that we have pretty much everything they need to help them grow into a healthy hive!
