Spring means babies!

We hatched 27 chicks and 9 turkeys
Added 137 meat birds,
2 kittens and
4 piglets.

We are busy and tired! So blessed to live this life ❤️ 🙏

🌍 Earth Day!!🌲 🌍 🌱
We celebrated at co-op today by cleaning up our town and giving back to the earth and our community. So proud of these kiddos. They raked, leaves, cleaned out beds, moved rocks, picked up trash and planted flowers for 2 and 1/2 hours! They worked together and made the town hall look beautiful! They got special junior police badges from the Chief of Police, which was definitely a highlight for a lot of them. It was another great morning!

Nature co-op has been busy this winter. With all the gear wearing I’ve been taking less pictures and have slowed down on posting. But we’re still going strong!
Some of the past weeks have included
🔥 Fire Department visits to teach us about outdoor fire safety.
🎀Wreath making from evergreens we identified around the property
☃️Snowball fights
🌲Visits to a christmas tree farm
🐾Animal Tracking
🗺️ and today we learned about our biome and made Topographical Maps of NH to be painted next week.

The Center for Wildlife came to visit Nurture in Nature Co-op! It was an awesome visit. They are so knowledgeable, kind and bring some fabulous animal ambassadors with them. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot. We finished off with some trick or treating on the trail.

This week we explored the fungus amoungst us!

🍄 First, we inoculated logs with blue oyster or chestnut mushrooms. To do this we drilled holes in birch logs, hammered the spores in and covered them with wax These logs will grow edible mushrooms for the next 7️⃣ years!!!
🍄‍🟫 Next we went on a mushroom hunt in the woods!
🍄 Finally, we had some free time playing together.

🌧️ We were reminded that rainy days are still just as bright with the laughter and amazement of families learning together. 🌧️

This week we explored the food web 🕸️

First we read a story about the food web. Then we created our own food webs.
🔬we dissected owl pellets (which was so cool!!!)
🦉 We tested our owl ears with some paper cones.
✈️ Then we tried to mimic silent flight by making paper airplanes that flew silently.
🌲We made nature owls with items we found around the property.
🐥 Finally we tested our knowledge of chickens and ended our day with holding and loving on some baby chicks.

Another fun day full of new ways to explore and experience the great outdoors!
