Each year kids finishing 6th grade are selected by Middletown Schools to participate in Fire Camp. Throughout the day, the students are shown aspects of our daily life and get hands on training of tasks performed by firefighters. We keep it safe and controlled but they stay active and involved all day. It’s an opportunity for them to experience this profession outside of just seeing a fire truck drive by their house.

This years sponsor was Hightower Petroleum whom we can’t thank enough for their generosity in making this successful. Thanks to Middletown Schools, teachers current and retired, CBI, Middie Meal Machine, City of Middletown, and all the great students who participated in this day with us!

In May of 1992, Steve Riley was hired with the Middletown Division of Fire. Fast forward 34 years today, Lt. Steve Riley works his last full shift. Pictured with Lt. Riley is 1st Platoon his platoon for many years.

Over the span of 34 years, you likely have had an interaction with Lt. Riley. Whether you live in Middletown and once relied on his help in a time in need, have interacted with him in the fire service or you worked alongside him at some point.

With that being said we would like invite you to celebrate the retirement of Lt. Steve Riley on June 19th, 11:30am at Fire Headquarters!

We have another positive event to share! Today Atrium Hospital EMS Coordinator Karen Ward from Premier Health presented our crews and Middletown Division of Police officers & dispatcher with a Cardiac Save Award.

In February, crews were dispatched for an unresponsive patient who ended up being in cardiac arrest. Thankfully Middletown police & fire dispatch helped walk the family through how to handle this situation, Middletown police officers arrived continued CPR until EMS arrived. Then shortly after, EMS arrived and continued CPR, eventually regaining a pulse and transporting them to the Atrium. The patient did survive and was discharged. Roughly 10% of people survive these types of events and have positive outcomes across the country. Lately there have been several of these positive events in our community.

This event highlights great cooperation between our dispatch, police officers and EMS we have here in Middletown and shows how important each role is in an event like this. All three divisions in the city work together on a daily basis with the same goal in mind.

Crews involved:
FF/P Boerger
FF/P Haley
Capt. Klug
