Blue Faerie Farm We're a small post-organic, all-natural and chemical free fruit orchard and farm, growing small fruit, apples and open-pollinated, non-GMO veggies.

We are entering our 14th year as a commercial farm. Blue Faerie Farm is post-Organic, which is to say we were Organic Exempt in Maryland, and we still adhere to the fundamental principles of organic farming, but we have become very unhappy with the National Organic Program. We are still learning our business, and trying to grow to meet demand. We sell primarily through the Middletown and Urbana Library farmer's markets. We are developing our online store for pickup at markets and limited delivery. Hope to see you soon!

We have 15 varieties today including nittany, pink lady, ever crisp and granny Smith new this week. Of course there are Honey Crisp, sweet tango and fyrefly. You’ve heard a lot about the freeze damage this spring that happened on our farm and across PA. While we are blessed to say we still have some of our crops out there, we are finding more and more ways that it has been negatively impacted by the freeze events from the spring.

This is what we call “frost ring”. This often happens during the early stages of development of an apple when cold temperatures affect it. If it doesn’t die completely to cold temperatures, it can be affected such that it will grow with a deformity of some sort. It is rare to have a year when frost rings do not occur at some level, but you typically see a very small ring right around the calyx of the apple – unnoticeable enough that generally the fruit can still be sold as fresh fruit.

The damage we’re seeing this year is much more along the lines of the photos – and of course, that fruit has no value on the fresh market. If not too bad, we might be able to convert them into sauce or juice. But when your crop is already reduced and a percentage of what is left has no fresh market potential, it’s a bit of a dismal outlook. But, we still have fruit, and for that we are so grateful!

Good morning Urbana!! Peaches are drawing to a close, but we have yellow and white today. Ruby queen pluots and Stanley European plums, scuppernong and muscadine grapes are here as well. For apples 🍎 today we have honey crisp, sweet maia, ginger gold, gala and introducing golden fyre, a semi tart eating, cooking or juicing apple. Red and green Bartlett and crispy Pears round out our table today. Just a shout out, the pears have been amazing 😍 this year
