I think I ruined someone’s day at market when they asked for gardening help for hornworms. Cause how do I get rid of hornworms? I do not. These things make me ridiculously happy, and they’re a sign the plants looked good enough to lay eggs on. They’ll grow into an incredibly large and beautiful nocturnal moth and pollinator. Sometimes I’ll put all of the worms I find on one plant so I can check in on them.

Mostly I’m just thrilled to have beautiful new growth on these plants at the end of August. ❤️

You don’t have to be an artist to appreciate how gorgeous this red is, but I love that so many of our community (both customers and crew) DO make art. Love sharing all this cool stuff together.

Btw, these are cayenne peppers—a little spice and the ones you braid into dried pepper ropes. They’re just starting to turn (did you know peppers, like tomatoes, won’t ripen when it’s too hot? Rude 🥵), but you’ll start seeing these at the farmstand, market, and in the CSA soon!

Phew, what a week! We started with our annual organic inspection by NOFA-NY. (Did you know we’re certified by both NOFA and Real Organic Project?). They follow everything we grow from seed to sale follows the organic guidelines.

Then our friends at Cornell Extension came out to look at the health of some of our plants.

It was wildly hot with this humidity, but nature was stunningly beautiful—I’m sharing photos of both the bees pollinating the sweet corn and the gorgeous results of a bed full of the most delicious certified organic sweet corn. CSA got the first ears last week, so we have plenty for Chappaqua Farmers Market Barryville Farmers’ Market and the farm stand this weekend. Come say hi!

The end of a long (fast?) sad week around here, but still lots to be grateful for—Cathy, Bradley, & crew that worked hard to make things work without me; overwhelming kindness from the very cool community of humans that we’re happy to be a part of; and a ton of food coming out of the fields despite a very wild weather year.

Wish you could smell the fresh cut herbs in the field this morning, but you’ll just have to come see us this weekend Barryville Farmers’ Market , Chappaqua Farmers Market , at the farm stand, or find your own local farmer to have good feels about. Love you guys. ❤️😘

I haven’t posted in a minute bc it’s been busy—everything from maintaining these gorgeous tomato vines so they produce amazing fruit to contemplating how many lettuce to plant—it takes 7 weeks from seed to harvest. Will people even care about local lettuce in September or will I plant extra and do all the work to compost it? Farming is a wild ride, y’all, but so many good things coming!

Got busy to market post, but just wanted to say a quick thank you to our ! The board for the support & food pantry, our friends at Caradonna & for always lending a hand, and everyone that helped wrap up the market safely in severe weather. We’ll be back with more good stuff next year!

The first corn is setting silks, which means it’s just a few weeks away—meanwhile we’re just here weeding and planting 10 more batches of everything in this weird smoky hot weather. 🤷‍♀️
