Paradise foundโ€ฆa crunchy, tasty, Rocky Brook Orchard apple, hiding in the back of the fridge!

This is a first. Weโ€™ve never eaten one of our apples picked in the fall five months+ later, but we did today and this still juicy and flavorful Cameo hit the spot. ๐Ÿ˜‹

The idea of missing apple season at Rocky Brook Orchard! ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

We still have loads of late season apples, but depending on how busy we are this weekend, it could be the last chance for picking in 2025.

Come by Friday, Saturday or Sunday, 10-4:30, for tasty apples like Braeburn, Mutsu, Red Delicious, Cameo and more. Plus quinceโ€”thereโ€™s plenty left.

See you there!

Hello, apple pickers!

Hereโ€™s the update for weekend of October 17-19.

We will be picking several varieties of apples, including:

๐ŸCalville Blanc: from Normandy, France, this variety has been around since the 1600s. Itโ€™s a delicious apple perfect for eating fresh or as part of a baked Tarte aux Pommes.

๐ŸŽJonagold: this beauty is a cross between a Jonathan and Golden Delicious. Crispy with a white flesh, this appleโ€™s flavor is sweet with a balancing acidity.

๐ŸŽMacoun: boasts a crunchy texture, a sweet-tart taste and creamy white flesh. Ideal for eating fresh.

Plus: there is plenty of quince still available!

We are open 10-4:30, Friday through Sunday.

See you there!

It's an exciting time for apple picking this Columbus Day weekend, with recently ripened varieties including these delectables:

- Caville Blanc: a uniquely shaped culinary apple of France; yellow with gorgeous pink blush; excellent flavor and holds its texture when cooked.

- Ida Red: Crisp, tangy, classic eating and baking apple. From Idaho hence its name. Cross between Jonathan and a Wagner apple. Full of antioxidents and stores for months.

- Ludicrisp: Sweet and troipcal flavor; developed from a Honeycrisp.
Versatile, eat fresh or use for baking.

- Cherry Bomb: Our own apple, tastes like wild cherry.

- Red Delicious: Not to be compared with over ripe Red Delcious found at most stores, our Red Delicous are crunchy and full of flavor, and we found actually improve with time in the fridge.

- Topaz: Sweet-tart flavor with floral and spicy notes. Sharp and clean when first picked, this variety sweetens with storage.

In addition to these harder-to-find apple types, we have well-known favorites like Macoun, Cortlands and Yellow Delicous.

And.... we have QUINCE--and lots of it!

We're open 10-4:30, Friday through Sunday, with hours for the holiday Monday still in question at this time due to the weather forecast.

Call ahead or check back here; we will keep this post updated!

The quince are here!

Quince is part of the pome family, like apples and pears, but is astringent and is best eaten after itโ€™s been cooked in a sugar syrup and its white flesh turns a deep ruby hue. It makes a delicious quince paste that would be the star of any cheese platter. And itโ€™s wonderful when added to meat when roasting.

Quince has been used in cooking for hundreds of centuries with the earliest varieties hailing from the Caucasus region and northern Persia.

Check out recipes online, we have listed one source below.

Weโ€™re open Friday through Sunday, 10-4:30 and on Saturday will still have mid season apples available like Macoun, Cortland, Macs, and more unusual types like Corail.

We will likely have some pears available too. The Bosc should be ready next weekend, October 10-13. ๐Ÿ

IMPORTANT SUNDAY UPDATE:

We are waiting for later season apples to ripen. By Sunday--while we should have ample quince on hand--ripe apples will likely be in very short supply. As such, we are encouraging picking ONLY QUINCE on this day.

Hope to see you there! ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ

We're now officially mid-season for apples, pears and quince!

With our color-coded ripening system, you know what's ready when. Early season starts with the trees with a Red spool, then the Orange are ready, then Yellow. The season finishes with the Green and Blue spools in October/early November.

This weekend, some Reds and many Oranges are still available now, including Silken, Macoun, Cortland, and Macs. The Yellow are making their debut, and include these sumptious treats:

Yellow Delicious: A popular and sweet, crips apple with a golden-yellow skin

Shizuka: A cross between a Yellow Delicous and and Indo variety, this apple is much like a Mutsu but sweeter

Rubinette: An apple with a Swiss heritage, with an intense, honeyed and sharp flavor

Ambrosia: A sweet, crisp, juicy apply with honey-like flavor and distinctive pinkish-red blush

Hart Fancy: What a combo! A Honeycrisp and Gala cross breed, that is sweet, crunchy with lots of juice

We're open Friday through Sunday, rain or shine, 10am-4:30pm.

See you there!

Hello, apple pickers!

Itโ€™s another beautiful RI weekend, perfect for getting outside and getting your fruit supply for the week straight from the trees. ๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒณ

We have over two dozen varieties of apples ready this weekend, including those mentioned in last weekโ€™s post like Honey Crisp.

We also have Scarlett Crush, a rosy-red apple that is a cross between a Honey Crisp and Pink Ladyโ€”yum! ๐ŸŽ

Macs are at their finest, and we even have some Cortlands and early season quince on hand too.

Weโ€™re open today, Saturday and Sunday, 10-4:30.

Dare we say it? The HONEY CRISP are ready! ๐ŸŽ‰

Come get these scrumptious sweet delights, along with several other apple varieties this weekend including:

๐Ÿ Silken: Sweet, honey-like flavor. Crispy.

๐Ÿ Ginger Gold: Balanced sweet-tart taste. Nice crunch.

๐ŸŽ Rockstar: AKA NY 75414, and also โ€œEarly Macounโ€, our version is unique and has small white stars on its skin. Hence, we renamed it! Crisp with an excellent flavor.

๐ŸŽ Gala: Distinctly sweet flavor with notes of honey and floral aroma.

๐ŸŽ McIntosh: Tender flesh, both sweet and tart. Refreshing when eating fresh. Breaks down quickly so also good for apple sauce.

๐ŸŽ Cortland: Crisp white flesh, juicy. Sweet-tart flavor. Many like it for baking.

๐ŸŽ Elstar: Honeyed with a good balance of acidity. Soft crunch.

๐ŸŽ Autumn Crisp: Well-balanced, refreshing sweet-tart flavor. Firm, crisp flesh.

๐ŸŽ Rubens: Balanced flavor with tangy and sweet notes. Reminiscent of a Gala with hints of melon.

๐ŸŽ Bardsey: A rare apple, with origins of Bardsey Island, a place of pilgrimage in Wales from Celtic times sometimes linked to Avalon, the mythical island in King Arthurโ€™s legends. Similar in crispness and taste to a Honey Crisp.

๐ŸŽ Orange Cox Pippin: Heirloom Apple discovered in England in the 1830s, known for its red and yellow striped skin and crispy, aromatic, and juicy flesh. Subtly sweet and spicy.

We are open RAIN OR SHINE, Friday through Sunday, 10-4:30. See you there!
