9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest…Galatians 6:9
So after a long first back to school week, I was ready to go home on Friday. I pulled out of the school parking lot and made it 100 yards and my tired went flat. I was weary and frustrated, not knowing who could help. A thought popped into my head. Nine years ago when I first changed schools, I helped out a fifth grader with some of his troubles. I still see him around because his three little brothers go to my school now. I often keep tabs on him and saw him earlier at school, dropping off supplies for one of his brothers. I also knew he chose to go into auto mechanics. I called the front office and told them to call his mother. They asked me, “what on earth should we say?” I told them, “tell them Mrs. Adams has a flat tire and is stuck at school.” Miraculously, she picked up the phone, and the eldest was home. He was there in less than 10 minutes. We changed to tire together. I looked in my wallet and saw I only had two $20 bills. I handed it to him and said “thank you, take this, I wish I had more cash to give you.” I tried three times. He said, “Mrs. Adams, I won’t take your money…I’m not taking your money. Put it toward a new tire.”
I made it home, grateful, yet a little stressed forecasting an added trip to the dealership to my weekend for a new tire. My hubby Jamie met me as I pulled in, and assessed the damage. He said, “oh I can fix that.”
Instead of spending countless hours on the side of the road and at the dealership, the whole ordeal took less than 3 hours, changing the tire, driving over an hour to get home, and Jamie patching and remounting my tire.
There is goodness in the world. In places that are expected and unexpected. I am grateful for the willingness and knowledge of these two men. If it was left to me, I may still be on the side of the road. God always provides, in expected and unexpected ways, through the goodness of our fellow men. Thank goodness they decided not to be weary of doing good…
Galatians 6:9-10
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
If you know of another bible verse that happens to capture the goodness of others, and aligns with my experience, please share it with me!
