Yesterday we spent the day building the babies a tiny run so they can enjoy the beautiful sunshine safely, and for the ducks to get their feathers wet. 🦆 🐥

Yesterday they were a little skeptical but today they were all about the grass, sunshine and water ☀️ 💦

We added 6 new quackers to the family yesterday! 🦆💛

Right now we’ve also got 40 chicks growing, and Sawyer’s class is hatching 12 of our eggs in our incubator for their science class!

Every year I try to add at least 12 new pullets to help carry us through the winter months while my older ladies take their well-earned breaks. Over time, our flock numbers have gone down (age, predators, and let’s be honest… chickens can be a little determined to get themselves into trouble 😅), so this year I decided to really rebuild and brought in 40+ chicks.

I’m also trying something new this year; each breed has its own colored leg band, and once they’re grown, they’ll get numbered leg bands. I’ll be tracking everything in a spreadsheet so I can keep up with health, laying patterns, breeds, and more.

Here’s to trying new things and growing our little homestead! 🌿🐓
