What goes into preparing a cake order? Lots & lots of BSweet's Love ❤️🥳🎂
A finished cake may be the part you see, but here’s a quick list of what I do to get your order ready before your celebration:
1. Receive your inquiry and confirm the event date and pickup or delivery needs.
2. Gather the order details: size, servings, flavor, filling, frosting, design, colors, cake message, and special requests.
3. Ask about allergies or dietary needs and explain what the bakery can safely accommodate.
4. Review the design request, reference photos, and personalization details.
5. Check the production calendar and confirm the order can be completed on time.
6. Calculate the price, including the cake, custom design work, add-ons, and delivery if needed.
7. Prepare & send a clear quote and order summary.
8. Receive the customer’s approval and required payment or deposit.
9. Record the order details, deadline, contact information, and balance due.
10. Add the order to the production calendar and plan the work schedule.
11. Review the recipe and calculate the ingredients needed for the cake size and number of layers.
12. Check the inventory of ingredients, packaging, and decorating supplies.
13. Purchase or prepare anything that is needed.
14. Clean and sanitize the work area, equipment, pans, and tools.
15. Measure the ingredients accurately and prepare the cake pans.
16. Mix the batter, portion it evenly into the pans, and bake it at the proper temperature.
17. Check for doneness, remove the cakes from the oven, and let them cool properly.
18. Release the cakes from the pans and allow them to cool completely before decorating.
19. Level the layers and trim them as needed.
20. Prepare the filling, frosting, and any other components for the design.
21. Assemble the cake with even layers and filling, adding support when needed.
22. Apply a crumb coat and chill the cake so it is stable.
23. Add the final coat of frosting, then smooth or texture it as planned.
24. Complete the design with the requested colors, piping, decorations, topper, edible image, or message.
25. Compare the finished cake with the approved order details and design.
26. Check the spelling, finish, presentation, and security of the decorations.
27. Photograph the finished cake for the bakery’s records or portfolio.
28. Prepare the cake board, box, and protective supports for safe handling.
29. Package the cake securely and include any relevant storage or handling information.
30. Weight the cake and prepare the product label with ingredients and allergens information.
31. Confirm the pickup or delivery time and share care instructions.
32. Collect any remaining balance before releasing the order.
33. Hand off or deliver the cake carefully and thank the customer.
34. Clean and sanitize the work area, wash the equipment, and update the order records.
From the first customer conversation to the final handoff, every step matters. A custom cake takes planning, preparation, skill, and care, and it’s a joy to create something special for your celebration.
