America’s survival depends on one law alone—our Constitution—and DeSantis just drew the line. Governor Ron DeSantis is not mincing words because the stakes could not be higher. When any society begins tolerating a second legal code that sits beside or above the Constitution, the rule of law collapses. Sharia is not a private spiritual practice.
In practice it has meant unequal testimony for women, honor violence, child marriage, and courts that treat non-Muslims as second-class. Florida’s HB 1471, signed in April 2026, simply tells every judge in the state the obvious: if a foreign or religious rule conflicts with the U.S. or Florida Constitution, it is void. Period. No exceptions, no “cultural” carve-outs, no slow creep through family-law arbitration or zoning deals. DeSantis watched what happened in parts of Europe—parallel “community” tribunals, police reluctance, and neighborhoods where English law effectively stops at the border.
He is refusing to import that experiment. The same statute also gives Florida the tools to designate groups that provide material support to terrorism and cut off taxpayer money. CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood have already been placed on that list under the new process.
Critics scream “Islamophobia.” Ordinary Floridians hear something simpler: one flag, one Constitution, one standard of justice for everyone who lives here. That is not hate. That is the bare minimum required to keep a republic. If other governors follow, the country stays free. If they blink, the exceptions become the rule and the Constitution becomes optional. DeSantis is betting Florida—and America—will choose the first path.
