My male guard dog accidentally got with my female. He is Pyrenees and she is Akbash. She had 10 in her litter and I now have more guard dogs than things to guard.

About 20 years ago I raised 2-3 hundred Bobwhite Quail, it was a lot of fun. Now that I raise thousands it is more work than fun. This is my fourth hatch and there are over 1150 chicks in this brooder and I have 11 or 12 more hatches to do.

It is vaccination time for the first round of 5-6 week old birds as we get them ready to put into flight conditioned pens. All birds are vaccinated for quail pox, Asian Flu and encephalitis before being released wherever our customers take them. There’s always a few that get away but vaccinating increases their chance of survival in the wild.

This is the difference between California blue valley quail eggs and the northern Bobwhite quail eggs the Bobwhite eggs are white not speckled. Most people that deal in quail knows this is for the people that didn’t know this .

Here’s some interesting oddities even in Bobwhite quail eggs. For instance one fully developed egg is formed inside another and one egg has formed attached to another. It’s not uncommon to see a double yolk egg, but these are probably pretty rare.

This is a Northern Bobwhite Quail. He was not raised in the wild. He got out of one of our flight pens about a month ago, he is approximately 30 feet from me in this photo. I see him every few days, each time I see him he puts a little more distance between us. I hope he makes it but the odds are stacked against him.
