M&S BEEF BACON REVIEW 🥓🥩
I originally went in looking for a hanger steak, but it was sold out AGAIN. Y’all gotta do better…ppffttt! 😂 Since I was already there, I grabbed this beef bacon to test instead. And here I am guys with my honest review
Let’s start with the price. This package was nearly $13 and only contained about 10 slices. That is absolutely premium pricing, so naturally, I expected a premium product with more w
I tested it two different ways:
🥓 Cold-Skillet Method: I placed the slices in a cold skillet and gradually brought them up to temperature, allowing the fat to render while the meat browned.
🥓 Oven Method: I baked the slices at 375°F for approximately 12 to 15 minutes.
The skillet was the clear winner. It produced better browning, rendered the fat more evenly and gave the bacon a much more enjoyable texture. The oven method intensified the flavor, but the texture leaned more toward beef jerky than bacon.
Now, the FLAVOR? Absolutely insane.
This does not taste like pork bacon, and honestly, it should not be judged as if it is trying to imitate pork. It tastes more like a beautifully seasoned, deeply browned short rib. It has a heavy beefiness with a rich, savory, umami-forward, almost dry-aged flavor. That part was outstanding.
The biggest issue was the connective tissue running through some of the thicker slices. Once cooked, those pieces became difficult to chew. If the manufacturer could trim or remove that tougher tissue while keeping the same slice thickness, the eating experience would improve tremendously.
You also are not going to get that light, shattering crispness associated with pork bacon. Beef bacon is meatier, denser and chewier. In the skillet, the edges browned nicely, but in the oven, it became much more jerky-like.
For nearly $13, I would also expect a minimum of 12 slices per package, especially if the suggested serving size is two slices. Ten slices simply feels skimpy at this price point.
Final verdict: The skillet method wins, hands down. The flavor is OUT OF THIS WORLD, especially if you love short ribs and bold, aged beef flavor. The product just needs better trimming and a slightly more generous package size to truly justify that premium price.
Would I buy it again? For the flavor, absolutely. But next time, I’m checking every slice for connective tissue before it hits the skillet.
