Why I Named It ALAB 🔥
Many people think my baking journey started during the pandemic. But the truth is, my love for baking began much earlier.
Years ago, I was already enrolled at MICAH Culinary Arts & Hotel Management and ready to begin that chapter of my life. However, my parents encouraged me to finish my bachelor’s degree first, so I eventually withdrew from the program and followed a different path.
But that desire to create never really left me.
Years later, during the pandemic, I finally had the opportunity to pursue what I had always loved. I enrolled in a TESDA baking program, where I received my first oven and baking tools as a scholar. After completing the program, I continued developing my craft at Apicius Culinary School, where I gained deeper training and a stronger foundation in the culinary arts.
When it came time to name my business, I wanted something personal.
ALAB came from my name — Andrea Louerma Alim Belmonte.
But what made it special was its meaning.
In Filipino, “alab” means a flame. A fire. A passion that continues to burn.
And that’s exactly what baking has been for me.
Not a passing interest.
Not a temporary hobby.
But a dream that waited patiently for its time.
Today, ALABakeshop is a reminder that some dreams may take longer than expected, but they are always worth pursuing.
