We are delighted to announce year two of our very special creative residency, this time in Roundstone, Connemara.

Creative Residency at the Pie Bird 2027 Retreat in Roundstone, Connemara, County Galway

The sold out retreat runs from July 8 - 14, 2027 and is co-hosted this year with my friends at Edible Philly, Timberline Farms, Black Market Bakery (our inaugural Creative Resident!) and Roundstone resident/legend Orla Connelly.

This is residency for a creative, regardless of field, but connected to or can build connections to a culinary pursuit - writer, baker, cook, farmer, potter, painter, musician, fisher, photographer, maker - anyone involved in a craft as their profession.

We encourage people of color; Indigenous people, LGBTQ+ people; veterans; people with disabilities; and others who are underrepresented within the creative, travel and culinary sectors to apply
This opportunity is open to applicants from across the globe!

Pie for People is my favorite kind of pie.

Folks always ask what my favorite pie is to make. My answer is usually ‘whatever is in season’, which is true. But I realized this week while making pie for the farm crew at blooming glen Friday, pies for neighbors I had never met that answered a call for assistance with hanging large pieces of art Saturday, and then finally for a neighborhood pot luck to welcome me is that my favorite pie to make, is in fact, pie for people. To show appreciation, care, warmth, community, effort, joy and love. 🥧

If you ask my pie (and bake) sisters I bet they would say some version of the same thing.

Food is love.

I might not be able to find a pot to boil water right now (thank you neighbors) but I can always take the time to find a bucket for these absolute stunners.
Soooo, I got a job. Yep, I sign in and out and report for duty at 7a on Fridays to work for my friend Tricia at Blooming Glen farm. I bunch beautiful bouquets all day with beautiful people, pet dogs, tease Tom, wash buckets, try to get better at wrapping bouquets and help load and unload. I have been feeling untethered, which I kind of am as a person, but I felt uncomfortably detached from myself, in an out of body way. Floating in the river helped, getting up early and doing the good work for others I admire, taking walks across the bridge with Shortie; they all put me back in my body. It’s weird when you realize you are floating like that.

Thank you Blooming Glen Farm for the good work, the community, the flowers and the watermelon. 🍉 I appreciate and adore you guys.
Now, everyone else: get to the headhouse market and go buy some good food.

In May, I was sitting on a rock in Glengarriff Bay nursing my little broken wing when I got the call that my bid had been accepted on this little time capsule home in the river town of Milford New Jersey, just a hop up river from Frenchtown. Bought site unseen and with an odd sense of certainty. She’s my new little project. Owned by an icon in the community, Dorris, who passed away at 96 last year after many, many decades as a Maple Street fixture and friend. I think this will suit me and Shortie just fine.

The warm kindness of neighbors and the easy community of a small town is a balm for my soul. We took a little walk around last night as the sun was setting and enjoyed the sounds of a porch session, the banjo was out by the time we made our way home.
More to come as I share the restoration and move in!

Pie parties were had, new friends were made, legends hosted and taught us, art inspired us, saunas, sea swims and the forest healed us, food nourished us, beautiful souls gathered in community.
Love you all for sharing your talents and hearts so generously and joyfully. This gang, this place, this moment in time. ❤️❤️❤️

Meet the 2026 Pie Bird Culinary Retreat Creative Residents!

Thank you for your patience in our announcement, we received an absolute boatload of talented applicants. Magical humans from several continents applied and made this an incredibly hard decision. We are honored that you invested the time and effort to share your interest, thoughtful concepts, ideas and immense talent. Sadly we did not have the capacity to invite all of these bright lights to join us because that is a trip I want to be on!

We are so pleased to introduce two amazing woman…

Meet Shiv:

Shiv is Zimbabwean Irish singer, songwriter, and producer whose soulful, introspective sound blurs the lines between R&B, neo-soul, and lo-fi textures. A former DJ turned artist, she’s known for her warm, honey-toned vocals and diaristic storytelling, music described as “rich in emotion and personal insight… showcasing the depth and evolution of her artistry” (GoldenPlec).

Meet Kelly:

Kelly O’Neill is a multi talented farmer, baker, mother, storyteller, writer, and maker. Like most farmers, Kelly manages several aspects of their operations including chicken and duck flocks, weekly sold out donut drops with fresh eggs and extraordinary flavors, and writes a weekly print newsletter as the owner of Timberline Farms and Black Market Bakery.

We are delighted to welcome Shiv and Kelly to West Cork very soon and stay tuned for more about their creative pursuits and contributions during our time together in this Irish temperate rainforest.

To be connected with all so many wonderful creators through this process was thrilling, and we look forward to further collaborations and opportunities to work together. We will also be featuring many of the applicants in our stories so be sure to give them a follow💙

Esk Mountain is just 8 minutes down the road from our retreat and I was so delighted to receive a kind invitation to spend the morning there with such a special crew of other cooks, hosts, botanists, artists and other fascinating folks. Looking forward to bringing the gang here to learn about their restoration efforts, foraging knowledge and experience this otherworldly outdoor kitchen in the middle of their temperate rainforest.
Feeling grateful for the opportunities that abound in West Cork to connect, create, be inspired, have a chat, foster a collaboration and always, always learn something new. And the eating amazing food of this place. 💫🔪⛰️
